Chester Hanks, the problem child, has been getting himself in trouble since his teen years. But not usual teenage problems, but problems that sent him to rehab at an age of only 17 years.
Being a child of someone famous comes with many perks, but has its drawbacks as well. For example, you have access to whatever comes to your mind. However, it is fairly easy to abuse it and make it into an issue for you.
Tom Hanks’ son, Chester, now wants to take a look back into such things that made his adolescence a real nightmare.

On his YouTube channel, he speaks about the therapy he had to go through as early as his teenage years, and what advantages his name had on it.
“I was at the lowest point in my life, completely lost.” – Chester says. “To the point where the hysteria went beyond the limits I knew. They wrecked me psychologically. I was totally out of control. I wouldn’t change my situation for anything, I love my parents. There are a lot of perks, but sometimes it can be quite strange.” – he adds.
While his parents were facing extreme success, he was struggling with drug addiction. He became the black sheep of the family who was smashing hotel rooms, and who was battling crack and cocaine addiction.
“I was able to do a lot of cool things that a lot of people didn’t have the opportunity to do: travel the world, stay in nice hotels, fly on private planes, and I feel blessed by this. I wouldn’t change my situation.”
But he does see the drawbacks and flaws that this life might put on you if you take it for granted.
“My experience was even more complicated because, in addition to the fact that fame is toxic, I wasn’t even famous.” – Chester says. “I was just the son of someone famous, I hadn’t done anything to deserve any kind of recognition. But what that generated was a lot of disdain for me.”
The first time that Chester went to a correctional institution and into rehab was at an age of just 17 years. However, that is not when he got clean for the last time. After getting out he starts with the drugs and his old life once more. He finally re-enters rehab at an age of 24 again and leaves it all behind him for good.
“Finally at the age of 24, I decided to get some help. With years of sobriety under my belt, I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
