Bryan Danielson will go one on one with an old foe on Sunday, as he takes on Chris Jericho. Billed as American Dragon vs. Lionheart, it’s set to be a technical wrestling classic – and Danielson will get a tune up match here tonight. Jake Hager is always lurking near Jericho, and jumped Danielson last week. Tonight, Hager goes one on one with Danielson – and could be keen on ensuring Danielson doesn’t make it to Sunday. Before this match, Daniel Garcia would pledge his loyalty to the Jericho Appreciation Society, and wants to see Jericho prove he’s the better wrestler on Sunday.
Historically, Bryan Danielson Has Had The Number Of Jake Hager
Jake Hager has a 19-15 AEW record, while Danielson has a 28-5-2 record, and a 4-1 career singles record against Hager. Hager would kick things off by driving Danielson into the corner with some big strikes, before throwing him across the ring.
Danielson would apply a guillotine choke, and Hager was able to power his way to freedom. Hager was sent to the floor, and hit with the suicide dive before the flying knee strike was caught – before a running spinebuster throught the timekeepers table. Danielson would be driven spine first into the ring post twice, Hager keen on breaking the back of Danielson down.
Back in the ring, Danielson would look for a kneebar – but Hager would use his power to block, before slamming Danielson right into the mat. Hager would hit some heavy handed chops in the corner, before putting Danielson on the top rope – keeping those chops coming. Danielson would fight free, and send Hager into the ring for the shotgun dropkick.
Danielson would cut Hager down with the leg kicks, before the Buzzsaw Kick for the two count. Hammer & Anvil elbows would land, but Hager would block. Armbar would get the same results, before Danielson got the triangle choke. Hager fought free, and blocked the LaBell Lock into the ankle lock.
Danielson would counter into the LaBell Lock, and Hager used his long limbs to get that bottom rope. Hager would look to apply the Head & Arm Triangle, but Danielson blocked into a pinfall. Hager kicked out, but was dropped with the running knee strike for the finish. After the match, 2point0 rushed the ring, but Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta made the save. Jericho went for a chair shot, Garcia stopped him – and Danielson hit another running knee.
The Wingmen Get Run Out Of The Arena By W. Morrissey
After the break, The Wingmen rushed the ring with a protest – demanding more Wingmen on TV! Ryan Nemeth, Peter Avalon, JD Drake and Cezar Bononi would try and rule the ring – but W. Morrissey would have something to say about this. Last we saw of him, he lost to Wardlow, but Jim Ross saw him close to making a deal.
He’d run down Bononi, Nemeth, Avalon – and chokeslam Drake. The beatdown kept coming, and Stokely Hathaway would hit the ring – perhaps the man who has the deal with W. Morrissey. The business card was offered, and Morrissey would accept this – and more destruction could be following. Tony Schiavone would try and get an interview, but Hathaway would claim it’s none of his damn business. With Morrissey backing him up – Schiavone would not press this issue.
