Last night, we saw the second match in the AEW World Trios Championship, with The Best Friends defeating The Trust Busters to advance to the next round. This was an eye opening match for fans, as the trio of Ari Daivari, Slim J & Parker Boudreaux really showed their value in the ring. However, Tony Khan was already keen on pushing them – and has a track record for pushing talent despite fan backlash.
Defending The Trust Busters
While promoting the latest episode of AEW Rampage, Tony Khan would respond to a fan complaining about this group getting TV time. Khan would be quoted saying the following.
“I feel emboldened to point out that in 2021, I got very similar reactions for strapping the TV rocket to Garcia/2.0, and in 2020 to The Acclaimed”
This was eye opening for some fans, who forget that The Acclaimed did not start in the company as a fan favorite act. While every project in AEW history has not worked, with The Nightmare Collective & The Factory being failures – but AEW fans need to accept that not every act that makes TV will have a proven track record first.
Tony Khan Knows The Risks
In professional wrestling as a whole, you need to take chances sometimes to find the next big act. While the AEW roster seems rock solid right now, they still need to be constantly working to make new popular acts. The Acclaimed & 2point0 prove that Khan has an eye for this type of thing, and while the jury is still out on The Trust Busters being a success in 2022? They’re on the right track.
Recruiting Sonny Kiss alone won them over some fans, with fans practically begging for Kiss to get a proper chance in an AEW ring, and show the massive strides he’s made while working on AEW Dark over the past two years. Add in a proven but overlooked talent in Ari Daivari, and a developmental project in Parker? You have the potential for this to turn into something good, provided that AEW doesn’t give up on them early.
