Recently, something was put into question by Daniel Garcia – and that is who is the better wrestler? Is it his childhood hero of Bryan Danielson, who he recently had his perfect match against? Or is it his mentor, the legendary Chris Jericho? We will find out here tonight. It’s The American Dragon vs. The Lionheart – as these two former World Champions do battle – for the first time since 2013. In singles action, Jericho holds a 3-0 record over Danielson – boding well for this chances here tonight.
Bryan Danielson Tests Lionheart
Despite going back to the Lionheart nickname, Jericho remained an insufferable prick – and Danielson would waste no time taking him down and stomping him on the face. Back in the ring, Danielson would look for some chops, but Jericho avoided and threw one of his own. Danielson just shrugged this off, and would apply the Romero Special in the ring and ripped at the nose of Jericho.
Kneebar would be attempted, but Jericho was able to counter. Danielson would regain control, and throw some punches – and Jericho responded by taking him to the mat face first and hitting some elbow strikes, before looking for a submission of his own. Back to a vertical base, Jericho threw some strikes before hitting a backbreaker.
Jericho threw some mocking chops, and was sent out to the floor and hit with the flying knee off the apron. Back in the ring, Danielson would end up in the Walls Of Jericho – but was able to fight his way to freedom. He’d send Jericho to the floor, and nail the suicide dive. Back in the ring, Danielson went to the top rope – and was nearly taken down with a Super Rana.
Danielson missed the diving headbutt, but was able to block the attempt at the Lionsault. Jericho would try and catapult Danielson to the floor, but would hold on – and hit the ring and ended up in a Tombstone Piledriver and Lionsault for a two count.
Chris Jericho Takes The Low Road
Danielson would take a punt kick to the face, Jericho showing some aggression. He’d be cut down by the kicks of Danielson, before having his head kicked in. LaBell Lock would be applied in the middle of the ring, and Jericho would block into the Walls of Jericho – but couldn’t keep the control. Danielson would go for the Triangle Sleeper, but was slingshotted into the bottom rope.
Jericho would hit the short range dropkick near the ropes, and would get the two count. He was looking gassed out at this point, and would look to end things with the Liontamer. Danielson would hold on and hit with the Hammer & Anvil elbow strikes, before breaking free and getting the running knee strike.
Cattle Mutilation would be applied, but Jericho would fight free – right into the Hammer & Anvil elbow smashes. Jericho would hit a low blow out of the view of the referee and the Judas Effect would end it. Jericho is always going to be Jericho at this point, and Daniel Garcia was not happy to see that.
House Of Black Are Playing For Keeps Tonight
Back at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Malakai Black sprayed that vile black mist right in the eyes of Miro. However, this wouldn’t lead to Miro joining forces with House of Black – instead, he vowed to take that gift, and use it to destroy ‘The Pagans’. He was unable to do it alone, and would call upon a man who he actually respects – Darby Allin. Along with Sting, who also was sprayed with that mist – they will look to tear down the House of Black here tonight.
Miro & Black would start this match off, and Miro would drive Black into the corner. King would step in to help Black, allowing for a chance to recover. Matthews got the tag, and Allin wanted the tag – and was denied. Miro caught a flying Matthews into a swinging side slam, before he’d deny the tag a second time.
Matthews would hit the jawbreaker, and Miro stumbled back into the blind tag. Allin would be caught going for the Coffin Splash – but was able to turn this into a cradle pinfall. Black would tag in and hit a big kick to the head, and Allin would isolated in enemy territory.
Sting Is Full Of Surprises
King would drag Allin to the floor and toss him about, and Black would keep the pressure on in the ring. Allin would take a pop up knee to the jaw, but made a tag to Miro – but Julia Hart bewitched the referee to ensure he didn’t see it. The tag to Sting was seen, and the legend would want Malakai Black in the ring. He’d throw Matthews to the tag after the Stinger Splash – and got what he wanted.
They would brawl in the middle of the ring, with Sting busting Black open. Scorpion Deathlock was applied, and the combined strikes of Matthews & King couldn’t break it – but allowed for Black to apply the kneebar. Sting would escape and hit the Deathdrop on King before the Coffin Drop from Allin for a two count.
Miro would take King & Matthews down with leaping thrust kicks, before Matthews would use the bat of Sting on the floor to crack Miro in the ribs. Allin hit the Cannonball dive, and Sting would spray Black Mist into the eyes of Black, before Allin applied the Last Supper pinfall for the win.
