She thought about the fame and attention that Elon Musk attracts recently and decided to sell all her personal items gathered through her past relationship.
Jennifer Gwynne, now 48 years old woman from South Carolina decided to ‘get rid’ of all of her personal items from her relationship with Elon Musk with the hope to raise enough money to help her stepson through college.

Elon Musk’s ex-girlfriend auctioned a birthday card that the Tesla and SpaceX CEO gave her back in her college days. It sold for almost $17 000. She auctioned a dorm room photo of the billionaire laying upside down and got $21 000 for it. Gwynne sold a gold necklace that the billionaire gave her in 1994 for a whopping $51 000.
In addition to all the above, Jennifer Gwynne went through her personal photo album and sold most of the photos from the period when she dated the billionaire. The photos featured Gwynne and Elon Musk eating out and having fun with friends.
Gwynne and Musk dated for one year during their college years. They were both residents at the same dorm. They dated one year before Elon Musk decided to move to California. He broke off with her as soon as he moved since, according to Gwynne, he told her that keeping up the relationship over the phone is a ‘waste of time’.
“We broke up just before he started conquering the world.” – Jennifer Gwynne said.
One of the auctioned photos portraying Elon Musk with Gwynne along his side seated on a bench outside the dorm sold for $3000. According to Jennifer Gwynne, Maye Musk, Elon’s mother took the photo when she visited them in the dorm.
“As I remember, the three of us were planning to drive to NYC to see the musical ‘Tommy’. The whole trip was a lovely gift from Maye.” – Jennifer told the auction house. “But as we were getting ready to leave, something on Elon’s car broke. So we ended up spending five or so hours at an auto parts store so Elon could fix the issue himself. He did. We made it to NYC and had a wonderful time.”
Another photo portrayed Elon in a BMW, allegedly taken just before a date night with Gwynne.
“We were heading out to see Pulp Fiction on one of our first dates off campus.” – Gwynne told the auction house for the photo that sold for $1100.
Jennifer Gwynne told the auction house that she hadn’t spoken to Elon Musk for more than 25 years, basically since their break up. However, the tech giant decided to take one of the posted photos and make it his profile picture on Twitter.
The photo in question shows Musk seated behind a desk wearing a judge Dread t-shirt. The photo sold for almost $10 000.
The idea of selling the photos came to Jennifer Gwynne after she saw that a simple old document that Musk signed with ‘EM’ sold for a significant amount. She thought of the money she could take from the photos she had and took advantage. Finally, it is a good way of making money enough to put your son through college.
“We met in the fall of 1994. I was a junior and he was a senior… we were in the same dorm and we worked together.” – Gwynne told the Daily Mail. “His shy nature attracted me at first… he used to be my type.”
Jennifer Gwynne opened up and described what Elon was like during their time together. To many people, it doesn’t come as a surprise that he was a ‘cold’ and ‘career focused’ guy.
“He is very intense, very focused on his studies.” – Gwynne continued. “Back then he was always talking about electric cars… he was definitely going somewhere. He just saw school as a stepping stone. When he is courting you, you know he shows interest, but he isn’t extremely affectionate. We were physical when we needed to be… but there wasn’t any hand-holding or anything like that. He liked to be together. He just liked having someone there with him, someone to support him.”
Jennifer Gwynne reveals that she had a good time with Maye Musk, Elon’s mother as well. She says that she is a ‘wonderful and stunning woman’ that always surprised her with her hospitality and friendliness.
“Maye was wonderful, very sweet, very gracious, and really included me in conversations. She was wonderful. She came to Philadelphia at the end of the school year and she took us to New York to see Tommy on Broadway.” – Gwynne recalls.
However, when speaking about Elon Musk’s father, Errol, Jennifer says that she did not meet him at all. She recalls Elon did not even speak about him much as well. At the moments when his father was brought up to the conversation, Musk would just tell her that they ‘don’t get along very well’.
Elon Musk started ‘making significant money’ after the summer of 1998 when he founded the Zip2 Company. Later on, in 2002 he made a jump of $150 million after getting into PayPal. He founded Tesla in 2010. Since then, it is all on an incline. From a net worth of just $30 million, he steadily jumped to more than $100 billion in less than a decade.
Now, Elon Musk is by far the wealthiest person that has ever lived. He has a net worth of $270 billion, mostly gained through his Tesla and SpaceX companies. He has gone through 3 marriages and has 10 children.
