Swimmer Michael Phelps shared a heartfelt message in order to mark the passing of his father, Fred Phelps.

The star is one of the greatest swimmers of all time after having accumulated a staggering 23 Olympic gold medals.
But for all the success that has managed to come his way, he could not help but look at his father whose missing presence has left a huge void in his life.
In a post to his fans on Instagram, Phelps shared a throwback picture of him with his father who is dressed in a law enforcement uniform.
The post was captioned by the following comments: “You’ll always be my dad…And I’ll always be your son…Love you dad and I will miss you. rip dad.”
This is something that Phelps will be experiencing more now that he is a father himself. He currently shares three children with his wife Nicole Johnson: Boomer, Beckett and Maverick.
And given that his father had managed to meet his grandchildren prior to his passing, this is something that generated a lot of emotion.
This was seen in response to another Olympian who decided to come out and share some very warm words. Lindsey Vonn, who is a former Olympic alpine-ski jumper, had this to say: “I’m so sorry for your loss.
“He will always be there. So sorry for your loss. Your Ravens family is sending love.” The response on social media was much the same.
A significant proportion of the fan base sent their condolences to the swimmer and wished him the best with things moving forward. After all, his father did leave him with some long-life lessons.
One person wrote: “Thinking of you and your family, Michael. Nothing can prepare us for the loss of a parent. We send you our deepest condolences during this time.”
