A Wyoming man decided to do things the hard way and pleaded not guilty to six misdemeanors on October 3, 2022.
Kyle Barrus (33) was involved in some Saturday morning mayhem as he is said to have fired a gun in the air, crashed into two vehicles, and attempted to flee from authorities on October 1, 2022.
Wyoming Man Pleads Not Guilty to 6 Misdemeanor Charges Involving Firing a Firearm and Fleeing from the Police
What makes this an unavoidable case is that Barrus had been in state and federal prison for drug trafficking. Once released, he had terms to his release that he had to abide by it he wanted to remain free.
He’s not going to argue “I went to prison for raising hell and doing dirt and you’re telling me I can do the same sh** that got me arrested after I get out?!” Just asking the question should be an automatic month in jail as it’s not something anyone would ask in court.
However, it appears that the mindset is there as Kyle Barrus began his mischief shortly before 4 AM on October 1 when citizens of Casper, Wyoming called the police to report gunfire and what sounded like a car crash.
A witness would say that Barrus hit his car and got out. Barrus was driving in a Chevy with a woman and went on to fire his gun into the air after the witness tried to check on him.
Authorities would run into Kyle Barrus and ordered them to stop. Barrus’ sidekick complied with the orders but Barrus took off running and cleared a fence behind a duplex. Police would find Barrus roughly an hour later on 12th and Beverly.
When approached by officers, Kyle Barrus claimed to have just woken up and didn’t know about any crash or all this firing guns and fleeing cops business. It was news to him! Smelling booze on him, cops requested an alcohol sobriety test—which the 33-year-old refused.
They wouldn’t even need the test as an inspection of the vehicle that he was driving turned three empty bottles of vodka.
Authorities also found a spent shotgun casing and 3.1 grams of meth. In Big Wyoming, having three grams of meth is enough to get hit with a felony charge. Since it wasn’t mentioned if a gun was found in the vehicle, he didn’t receive a weapons charge.
With his bond set at $4,000 cash or surety, Barrus pleaded not guilty to DUI, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of meth, and interference.
His young sidekick was arrested for underaged drinking and for entering detention with a concealed vape pen.
Prior to his October 1 arrest, Kyle Barrus had a fugitive warrant from U.S Marshals for admitting to violating his supervised release. He served 60 months federal time for gun possession in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
This was on top of other weapons and drug trafficking charges.
