A former leader and volunteer with Rock Church, a megachurch in San Diego, has been arrested for the torture and murder of her 11-year-old daughter, Arabella McCormack. Also arrested were her parents who received most of the same charges.
Former Rock Church Elder and Parents Arrested for the Torture and Murder of 11-Year-Old Daughter
On August 30, 2022, San Diego County deputies arrived at a residence in Spring Valley, a town in San Diego County. They had received a child-in-distress call and found Arabella who had suffered from “severe levels of malnourishment” and was covered in bruises.
She was rushed to the hospital but her condition only declined before she died. At the time, detectives were looking at this as a child abuse situation.
Arabella had been adopted by Leticia McCormack (49), an ex-elder with Rock Church and Brian McCormack. When deputies went to speak with Brian, he committed suicide in front of them.
Leticia and her parents Stanley Tom (75) and Adella Tom (70) were arrested on November 7 by the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force in Lucerne Valley, San Bernardino as well as Ocean Beach, San Diego.
According to the SDSO, Leticia McCormack was booked into the Vista Detention Center on three counts of torture, three counts of willful cruelty to a child, and murder.
Her father, Stanley Tom received the same charges and is being held at the San Diego Central Jail. Adella Tom was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility. She received the same counts for torture and willful cruelty but wasn’t charged with murder.
Arabella’s two sisters are in the custody of another foster family following the arrests. On November 10, Rock Church issued a statement through USA Today on the death of Arabella and distanced itself from Leticia McCormack:
“We continue to grieve for Arabella and her sisters. We are so sorry that their family and friends are experiencing this unimaginable loss and pain. We send our deepest condolences to all that are grieving at this time. Our hearts go out to each of them. The legal process will run its course and we hope justice for Arabella and her sisters will be served. We are praying that God’s love and grace will bring comfort and healing. The Rock no longer has any official relationship with Leticia.”
