Back at Rumble on 44th Street, we’d see Lio Rush join up with CHAOS – and form a tag team with YOH. Last night at Historic X-Over, they would show some serious tag team chemistry in an eight man tag team match – and make their formal tag team debut tonight. They are being thrown into deep waters however, as they meet the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions – United Empire members TJP & Francesco Akira, collectively known as Catch 2/2. TJP & Akira have not been teaming long, but instantly clicked and are only getting better as they build their chemistry.
YOH & Lio Rush Show Their Inexperience As A Tag Team
TJP & YOH would start this match off, with YOH taken to the mat with a side headlock takedown. YOH was able to wiggle free before getting taken into a headscissor takedown. TJP would have the hold turned around on him, before easily countering out. The pace would pick up briefly, before Akira & Rush got tags.
Rush would be shoved to the ropes, before taking a chop to the chest. Akira would learn why Rush is renowned for his speed, being unable to even keep his eyes on Rush as he was battered with speedy strikes. YOH would hit the ring, with some sloppy tag team work with Rush showing their infancy as a tag team.
Akira would send YOH to the floor, with TJP helping with a splash over the top rope. Right back in, TJP was able to launch Akira into a dropkick to Rush on the apron. YOH would be taken into the corner for the running face washes, before some more quick tag team strikes from Catch 2/2. Akira would hit a chop to the throat, before TJP would lift him onto his shoulder before tossing him down into a senton splash.
Akira would taunt Rush to get back in the match, taking his focus off YOH and taking a neckbreaker. TJP would be able to briefly prevent the tag, but it was not enough. Rush would hit the ring with some serious speed, nailing lariat after lariat before countering a German Suplex from Akira.
Catch 2/2 Kick Off Tournament With Big Victory
Catch 2/2 would be dropped with a double back elbow, before Rush would hit a set of low suicide dives. Rush would avoid a strike from TJP, before YOH would save him from the Detonation Kick. TJP would be sent to the floor, and YOH followed with a dive before rolling him into the ring for the handspring kick.
YOH tried to hit Drop The Needle on Akira, having to opt for a German Suplex after a counter. Akira would catch Lio Rush with the Italian Fly out of the corner, before a Half & Half Suplex on YOH. YOH was able to roll to his feet, and catch a rushing Akira with a superkick. Fireplex would get a near fall, and Akira would try for Speedfire.
YOH was able to block, before taking five knee strikes to the midsection. Akira would fire up YOH with some trash talk, but was able to avoid the Dragon Suplex. TJP helped with a pop up facebuster, before the 2/2 knee strike. Akira took out Rush on the floor, and nailed the Mamba Splash.
Rush somehow made the last second save, and YOH was able to block the Leaning Tower into a victory roll. TJP & YOH would trade pinfalls, before Rush saved YOH from the Detonation Kick. Rush Hour into DTN would follow, with TJP somehow able to to kick out. Rush was dropped with a double stomp, with TJP getting a cradle pinfall on YOH for the win.
