The wrestling world is still mourning the tragic passing of 13 time ROH World Tag Team Champion, Jay Briscoe. The victim of a deadly car crash, Briscoe passed away at just 38 years old, leaving a hole in the industry with him. We saw some minor tributes on last nights episode of AEW Dynamite, but following the conclusion of the episode – Tony Khan would put together a last minute “Celebration Of Life”’ for Briscoe.
ROH Jay Briscoe Celebration Of Life Card & Release Information
This event would feature seven matches, including two Ring of Honor championship matches – and several promos of talent remembering Jay Briscoe. The following matches were taped.
ROH Pure Championship: Wheeler Yuta (c) vs. Hagane Shinno
Marina Shafir vs. Mighty Mayra
QT Marshall vs. Eddie Kingston
Athena vs. Madison Rayne
Brandon Cutler vs. Juice Robinson
Yuka Sakazaki vs. Sandra Moone
ROH World Championship: Claudio Castagnoli (c) vs. Christopher Daniels
Adam Cole, Claudio Castagnoli & Christopher Daniels would all speak on the impact of Jay Briscoe in their careers. Other talent will have a chance to speak, with taped remembrance messages set to be record before this show airs. In addition, Jay Briscoe matches will be shown. The show is set to air for free on the Ring of Honor YouTube channel, and will also be available on HonorClub in the future. A release date remains unclear at this time.
A More Thought Out Tribute Show To Come From Ring Of Honor
Tony Khan would also announce during this show that he intends to put together a more thought out tribute show as part of the upcoming Ring of Honor tapings. There’s a chance that Supercard of Honor 2023 becomes this tribute show. Many have already pitched the idea of the current design of the ROH World Tag Team Championships being retired, and a Jay Briscoe Memorial Tag Team Tournament being held to crown new champions at the PPV.
One name who will have involvement in this upcoming show is Mark Briscoe, who was not on hand for the taped show – for obvious reasons. There is a hope that Mark will challenge for the ROH World Championship at Supercard of Honor, with him never winning singles gold in his Ring of Honor career.
