Bryan Danielson Wants AEW World Championship Match To Open AEW Revolution: “I Go To Bed Really Early”

Bryan Danielson Wants AEW World Championship Match To Open AEW Revolution: "I Go To Bed Really Early”

We’re about 48 hours away from the first defense of the AEW World Championship in 2023. MJF is walking into a sixty minute ironman match against Bryan Danielson. This match is set to be the main event of AEW Revolution, with Danielson having won a series of matches to earn his fourth shot at the AEW World Championship. No stranger to working long matches, Bryan Danielson isn’t worried about working for an hour – but does wish he could open the show and head to bed at his usual time.

Bryan Danielson Is Usually In Bed By 8PM On Sundays

While speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated ahead of this massive main event, Danielson would admit that he wants to convince AEW owner Tony Khan to open the show – simply due to needing to stay up past his usual Sunday bedtime.

“I would love to convince Tony Khan to let us go first, mostly because I go to bed really early. On Sunday, my wife couldn’t believe this. I went to bed at 8:03. There is a chance I will be going to the ring at that time this Sunday. We’ll be in San Francisco, and the idea of wrestling at five is much more suited to my personality.”

It seems unlikely that this will happen, with the AEW World Championship generally in the back half of AEW PPV’s, very rarely not closing out the show. Opening the show is possible and we’ll know the situation before the show begins.

Keeping The Crowds Attention Requires A Great Story

When it comes to the match itself, Danielson would mention a major concern with wrestling sixty minutes – and knows that’s keeping the crowd’s attention throughout. Thankfully Danielson knows a thing or two about telling a great story.

“The biggest concern is holding the live crowd’s attention. It is very important to have statement moments scattered regularly throughout the match. Having just read two books by Cormac McCarthy, he’s a great study in minimalism when it comes to fiction. He has these incredible sentences that hit you right in the heart. We need those sprinkled throughout the match, and plot twists. Overall, it needs to be a compelling narrative where the live crowd feels it. I know, 100%, the matches before us are going to be outstanding. We’re going an hour. We can’t have a stinker. This is the last match of the night.”

This will be the second Iron Man match in AEW history. The first happened between Kenny Omega & PAC. That match was only set to go for 30 minutes. Can MJF defeat Bryan Danielson this Sunday at AEW Revolution? Will he lack the cardio to last an hour? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
