Aussie Open are working to bounce back from the biggest loss of their career. Having lost the ROH World Tag Team Championships in Wembley Stadium put them back to the bottom of the list, and that won’t do for one of the best tag teams in the world today.
They are refinding the hunger that brought them to AEW – and after a fast win last night on Rampage, Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis have a lot to say on Collision.
Aussie Open Call Out FTR For AEW WrestleDream
Before speaking, Aussie Open would look for another win – facing down some local talent. Fletcher would set up a senton with a PK, before Aussie Open destroyed “Pretty Boy Smooth” with some hard strikes. A tag team spinebuster followed, and Aussie Open crushed this team.
Grabbing the microphone, Davis would call out FTR – asking if they’re paying attention. Fletcher said their victory earlier was impressive, but Aussie Open won two matches in two days in less time than it took FTR to win one match.
FTR talk about winning championships all around the world, but so have Aussie Open. If they’re handing out title matches – Aussie Open want in.
One year to the day from their five star classic in New Japan Pro Wrestling – Aussie Open want FTR. AEW WrestleDream – October 1st, titles or not – it’s Aussie Open vs. FTR II. Add this to Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr, and Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page – and this is becoming a must see show.
Andrade El Idolo Taps Out Scorpio Sky
Scorpio Sky was able to return to the ring earlier this year as part of AEW Collision – but a minor injury put him back on the shelf.
He’d return again as part of AEW All Out’s Zero Hour battle royale – but failed to make much of an impression. Tonight however, he’s facing one of the best in the roster in singles action – as the former TNT Champion faces Andrade El Idolo.
They’d lock up, with Sky being caught in a front headlock. He’d break free, and send Andrade into the corner with a spinning headscissor. Sky would be caught with the Dragon Screw – Andrade targeting the previously injured knees of Sky.
Andrade would try for the moonsault to the floor – but Sky would shove him off the top rope, and have him crash onto the apron.
Back in the ring, Sky would keep the pressure on with some strikes. Andrade would block a Suplex attempt, and hit a series of suplexes of his own – but after two, Sky hit a suplex of his own.
Sky would apply the chinlock, but Andrade would break free, but took a series of kicks to the chest. A set of Dragon Screws and a flying forearm from Andrade saw him retake control, shrugging off the offence of Sky. The running knee strike from Andrade was blocked with a Sunset Flip – getting Sky a two count.
Andrade would roll to the floor, but Sky soared over the top rope and landed on Andrade. Back in the ring, Andrade hit the spinning back elbow, but El Idolo DDT was blocked into a Small Package.
Sky would take a dropkick to the knee – and was locked in the Figure Eight Leg Lock – and had no choice but tap out.
Jay White Challenges Andrade El Idolo
With Grand Slam & WrestleDream quickly approaching – Jay White & Bullet Club Gold are here to remind everyone of their recent victories.
They defeated The Elite with help from Konosuke Takeshita at All In, and then defeated Young Bucks & FTR at All Out. Tonight, Jay White has been granted some microphone time – and the Catalyst of Professional Wrestling has a lot to say.
White came out to address Andrade, and said he looked like he had fun watching the Bullet Club Gold boys in action last week. It looked like Andrade wanted his own faction, but he can’t have White’s boys. What he can have is the White spotlight – as he’d be challenged to a singles match for next week.
