During the annual Commonwealth Day service, King Charles III displayed a sweet and revealing public display of affection with his sister-in-law Sophie Wessex.
King Charles III And Sophie Wessex’s Close Friendship Examined-‘Very Playful,’ Says Body Language Expert Judi James
Body language expert Judi James noted that this gesture helped to break the ice as the king appeared impatient.
Almost all the important individuals of the Firm, such as the Queen Consort Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales, were present at Westminster Abbey for the event.
This is where the coronation of the King will take place in just under two months on Saturday, 6th May 2023. Despite the windy weather, the royal group made their way to the Abbey where they greeted specific guests with handshakes.
They then conversed briefly before proceeding to their designated seats. Sophie, who seemed to be in a playful mood, jokingly bumped into Charles with her shoulder. Charles seemed enthusiastic to continue with the proceedings, which showed that they were on good terms.
In her comments, Judi said: “Whether it was the upgrade to Duchess of Edinburgh or maybe just a response to Charles’s slightly impatient-looking dithering as he waited to get on with the procession, but Sophie leant right in to give Charles a very playful shoulder-bump greeting, along with a very meaningful grin.”
In addition to this, Judi stresses that Charles seemed impatient while arriving at the Abbey, and Camilla appeared extremely nervous.
This may be understandable in light of the following factors. First of all, Charles is not the most popular monarch around. He has already been subjected to two egg-throwing incidents.
Not only that, but he has also seen anti-monarchy groups such as Republic hold protests against his presence. Secondly, there are still question marks over whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will attend.
And as the arrangement has to be made, the King may be feeling overwhelmed. Judi’s following comments confirmed as much: “Charles’s air of impatience might have been prompted by what went on outside the Abbey.
“Being greeted by jeers from the crowd from people carrying anti-monarchy banners didn’t rattle the King but it did seem to startle Camilla.”
The social media response was damning. Large numbers of people called out Charles and Camilla for not taking their duties seriously enough. One person wrote: “Not impressed by Camilla today.
“On arrival, she seemed more interested in her hat and her hair than the wonderful welcome her husband received and stood to enjoy. Also during the ceremony, she kept fiddling with her hair. Certainly not fitting for a future Queen.”
