Recently, it was reported that Brian Kendrick wanted out of his WWE deal. After having some great matches on 205 Live, Kendrick was moved into a producer role for the NXT brand – but he wanted more out of his career. WWE took their time granting his release, but it’s now official, and he’s wasted no time setting up his debut with AEW.
Brian Kendrick Makes His AEW Debut Against Jon Moxley
This was made official by AEW on Twitter, as they announced a huge match for AEW Dynamite for tomorrow tonight. Jon Moxley will take on Brian Kendrick, in his first match on Dynamite in 2022. While Kendrick has been out of the ring for a while now, he’s a legend of the indies – one of the biggest names in the early days of Ring of Honor.
In WWE, he would even challenge for the WWE Championship – while having record setting tag team success alongside Paul London. His latest success came as Cruiserweight Champion, but he might have something to prove in the ring with Jon Moxley. Kendrick was supposed to wrestle Harland on NXT 2.0, but the match was pulled without reason – and Kendrick wasn’t mentioned on TV following this.
A Big Step In The Building Feud Between Bryan Danielson & Jon Moxley
This isn’t just a big match however, it’s also a way to push the feud with Danielson & Moxley. Bryan Danielson broke into the industry alongside Brian Kendrick, a friendship that lasts until this day. Moxley taking out Kendrick will send a big message to Danielson – who has been keeping a very close eye on the matches of Moxley.
Moxley seemed set to face Danielson in the finals of the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament at Full Gear 2022, before Moxley checked out of AEW and into rehab. Now, Moxley is back and better than ever – and Danielson wants to prove he could still have won the tournament even if Moxley stayed in the field.
