Nikki Sixx Isn’t Having Any of Eddie Vedder’s Motley Crue Slander

In a January 31 interview with the New York Times, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder voiced his disdain of 80s heavy metal band Motley Crue and the whole aesthetic of the glam metal scene. Now, Motley Crue bass player Nikki Sixx clapped back at Vedder’s comments.

Nikki Sixx Isn’t Having Any of Eddie Vedder’s Motley Crue Slander

During the interview, Vedder delved into a crew job he did loading gear at a venue in San Diego. This was during the late 80s when MTV was giving a lot of the L.A scene bands—particularly from the Sunset Strip—a lot of play. Since he was there to set up equipment and the like, he was in the thick of shows that he described as “shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to.”

While you had acts such as Poison, Ratt, and Hanoi Rocks, Motley Crue is the most well-known and successful band out of the Sunset Strip scene. The Crue would be the band that was punctuated in his statements:

“The metal bands that—I’m trying to be nice—I despised. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and Mötley Crüe: F**k you. I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous.”

The Pearl Jam singer would go on to give props for being an L.A band with some bite to them saying “Guns N’ Roses came out and, thank God, at least had some teeth.” Of course, Nikki Sixx heard Vedder’s statements and had something to say himself on Twitter:

“Made me laugh today reading how much the singer in Pearl Jam hated @MotleyCrue. Now considering that they’re one of the most boring bands in history it’s kind of a compliment isn’t it?”

Sixx’s replies were a mix of support for Motley Crue, support for Pearl Jam, and those who dig both. It’s probably one of the most random slights that I’ve come across this month so far. This year, Pearl Jam is slated to tour Europe this summer and North America sometime later after their scheduled 2020 tour was nixed.

If you did Motley Crue, they have a US tour in the works starting June. It will be double-headed with Def Leppard with Joan Jett and Poison as supporting acts. Personally, I’m more of a Crue fan but Vedder is entitled to his opinion—especially as someone who is in the industry and was in the industry during Motley Crue’s hottest period.

Likewise, Nikki Sixx can fire back if he feels his work has been attacked by a musician who was just on the come up while his band was headlining shows. Which do you prefer? Pearl Jam or Motley Crue? Let us know in the comments!
