American Senator Lindsey Graham has controversially called for the Russian people to assassinate their President Vladimir Putin in order to prevent the country from continuing their war with Ukraine.
American Senator Lindsey Graham Calls For The Assassination Of Russian President Vladimir Putin-‘Take This Guy Out’
There is no denying that something needs to be done to stop this conflict, which started as a result of Russian aggression via Belarus.
While that may be the case, the last thing that people expected was for someone to assassinate the Russian president. And yet, Lindsey’s comments showed a man that did not care what others had to say.
In a statement, he said: “[People in Russia have to] step up to the plate… The only way this ends is for somebody in Russia to take this guy out.
“You would be doing your country and the world a great service. Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military?”
These highly inflammatory comments were slammed on two counts. First of all, Ilhan Omar from the Democratic party felt that these comments were only going to exacerbate existing tensions.
And by doing this, it would aggravate a country that is in possession of nuclear weapons. As such, there was always a possibility that Putin could take these comments personally.
In a statement in response, she stated: “I really wish our members of Congress would cool it and regulate their remarks as the administration works to avoid WWlll.”
Secondly, Graham’s comments were even frowned upon by members of his own Republican Party. Senator Ted Cruz was of the opinion that the current measures being imposed were going to have an impact.
But by calling for an assassination, it would merely prevent those efforts already taking place. In response, he remarked: “This is an exceptionally bad idea.
“Use massive economic sanctions; BOYCOTT Russian oil & gas; and provide military aid so the Ukrainians can defend themselves.”
It is not clear whether Graham’s comments were tongue-in-cheek, but in any event, they are hardly going to make Russia more receptive to the United States. And that is important to remember when trying to stop this conflict.
