According to TMZ, the two spoke briefly before DaBaby—real name Jonathan Kirk—opened fire on the intruder. When police arrived on the scene, it was explained that the 26-year-old intruder climbed the fence of the property where he encountered DaBaby.
Police reported that the intruder was not inside the rapper’s house when he was shot and was found on a football field on the property. A six-minute emergency call was released by Iredell County Emergency Communications. In it, DaBaby relays to the dispatcher that he had shot a man in the leg.
When asked why he’d shot the man in his leg, the “Find My Way” artist said “He’s trespassing on my property…I don’t know what he’s here for. What he’s here to take, what he’s here to do…He’s neutralized until you guys get here.”
The shooting was declared to be an “isolated incident” that posed “no threat to the community at large” by police. As for the fate of the 26-year-old intruder, he was taken to a local medical center for treatment. At the moment, there hasn’t been an arrest nor have charges been filed.
Currently, an investigation is still ongoing into the invasion and shooting. While this incident was a case of trespassing gone wrong, it wasn’t the first time police have been to DaBaby’s compound. Prior to this, law enforcement has responded to over thirty incidents between 2018 and 2020 at the residence.
Most of those calls were complaints from neighbors but there were two calls for domestic disputes.
