Mario Batali is something of a magnet for sexual misconduct accusations yet manages and victories are far and few between. His recent sexual misconduct trial could be seen as a victory as he was found not guilty of indecent assault.
Mario Batali Acquitted in Sexual Misconduct Trial
The specifics of the assault were that Batali forced himself onto a woman in March 2017, kissing and groping her in his restaurant. Charges came forward in May 2019. Note that there was a flood of accusations following the Eater article detailing situations in late 2017.
During that time, the restaurant empire that Mario Batali built over the last decade dwindled. Branding was changed, stuff was sold, and roles on shows were dropped—the name “Batali” had a stigma when it came to business because of the accusations.
Batali has been able to navigate the accusations by distancing himself from businesses and projects before damage was done to them. Also, the money from the sales will definitely go a long way in legal fees if the other accusations become legal.
For Batali, the outcome of this trial was important as it could’ve proven completely devastating had he been found guilty. That’s the criminal trial out of the way for Mario Batali. He is still on the line by the same woman in a civil trial for sexual misconduct.
