While being interviewed by CNN, Roger Waters, the co-frontman of the legendary rock band Pink Floyd made a shocking statement. Reportedly, he has a completely different opinion than many people around the world concerning the conflicts in Ukraine and in Taiwan.
The famous rock band member says that is USA and NATO’s fault for what is currently happening in the world. Furthermore, they are to be blamed because instead of calming down the situation they are putting additional ‘fuel’ to it.
Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters Blames The USA For The Ukraine War, For The Conflict In Taiwan, And For The Palestinian Problem
Rock bands tend to implement the world problems, or what they see as world problems in their music as much as possible with a single reason to send some kind of a message to the world. That’s why very often, the lyrics of their songs or their public performances are full of references.
Roger Waters decides to ‘throw a gig’ with a quite interesting between-songs show. He would use the current world happenings as the ‘topic’ for the decorations in between his performance. That is why he had police officers ‘shooting’ civilians on stage, he had a reference to the recent abortion laws present, and finally, he made a statement regarding the raging wars throughout the world.
In the interview, that CNN arranged after the controversial live performance, Roger Waters did not back off from expressing his mind. He opposes the view that the United States has of itself as a liberator. Waters points out quite the contrary. He says that NATO and the USA are responsible for the war raging in Ukraine. According to him, what the USA needs to do is cease encouraging Ukraine to fight an opponent that they can’t defeat. What they actually need to do if they want to help the Ukrainian people, is to sit down with Volodymyr Zelensky and convince him to negotiate with Russia and end the war.
Waters has an opinion on the origin of the conflict with Russia as well. According to him, Russia is just defending its interests. The war that we now see started more than 14 years ago, in 2008. The start of it is the constant pushing of NATO towards the borders of Russia. This is in direct opposition to the deal that the US had with Gorbachov. The deal asks that the USSR withdraws from Eastern Europe. However, this came with a promise that the USA will not ‘grow’ in that direction as well.
The conversation continues and Roger Waters sides with China as well. He says that China has every right over Taiwan. Taiwan has been a part of China since 1948.
To conclude the conversation, Roger says that the United States are not a liberator. They are interfering in places where they do not belong. A pure example of this is USA’s interference in Israel and in Palestine.
