Death Penalty Cemented for 1980s Serial Killer Charles Ng

Half of the serial killer duo Leonard Lake and Charles Ng has finally been given the green light for the death penalty. Charles Ng (61) had his death sentence confirmed On August 4, 2022. California has a freeze on executions which is in place for as long as Governor Gavin Newsom is in power.

Death Penalty Cemented for 1980s Serial Killer Charles Ng

Joining the U.S Marines to avoid prosecution for a hit-and-run incident, Ng showed early signs of being antisocial by stealing military equipment and taking too to the conditioning chants during drills. Dishonorably discharged, his wandering saw him eventually meet Leonard Lake, an even more antisocial former Marine who had sadistic thoughts of creating the perfect woman–”The M Lady”–and paranoia about a coming apocalypse.

Studies have found an odd relationship between the two. Leonard Lake, who manipulated others and was heavily involved in the amateur porn trade, had all of the plans for a torture regimen and housing in mind to condition women into being his ideal woman. If the project failed, the women were raped and killed.

Meanwhile, Charles Ng facilitated the rapes, torture, and murders while also participating in robbery with Lake. Together, the pair killed the Bond family of three, the Dubs family of three, and those who arrived to check on the Dubs. Alone, Ng is credited with murdering two gay men.

When the jig was up for both men in 1985, Lake opted to kill himself with a cyanide capsule. Ng decided to go on the run, eventually arriving in Canada. He fell into legal trouble there and was held to serve out his sentence because the country wouldn’t hand Ng over to face the death penalty.

    Charles Ng vs. California

Eventually, he was sent back to the U.S and imprisoned in California in 1991. While dealing with the legal procedure in California, he would befriend an inmate and begin to share a little too much about the murders in an inappropriately humorous way. His drawings of the murders would contribute to his guilty verdict and death sentence.

Charles Ng managed to stretch his case by repeatedly firing his lawyers. His trial would finally begin in late 1998 and he was to defend himself before that privilege was pulled. In 1999, he was found guilty of murdering nine adults—six men, three women—and two infants. Ng was sentenced to death by lethal injection.

However, California has had a hold on execution since 2019 with the last one being in 2006. The recent opinion was merely to confirm that Charles Ng isn’t leaving death row, his trial was fair, and will probably face his sentence.
