Jade Cargill was able to finish 2022 with a perfect 24-0 record, which includes 16 defences of the TBS Championship. Her final defence was against former ally Kiera Hogan – and during that match, there was some defiance from Red Velvet, who prevented Cargill from hitting a cheap shot on the floor. This nearly cost Jade her title and undefeated record, but tonight – they will need to get along as they face Hogan and Skye Blue in tag team action. If Velvet loses, that puts a black mark on the record of Jade – which would be unacceptable
Saraya Names Toni Storm As Tag Team Partner For Next Week
Before this match, we’d catch up with Saraya, Toni Storm & Hikaru Shida. They view Jamie Hayter & Britt Baker as trying to gatekeep the AEW women’s division, while they are trying to raise the division up. Saraya would say the best wrestler in the division is sitting next to her, and she’d mean Storm – saying she will be her partner for next week.
Shida would look very baffled and annoyed by this, as Saraya & Storm would start to strategize. This was a massive blow of disrespect to Shida, who is a former AEW Women’s World Champion – having the longest reign at 372 Days. Saraya might have gotten lost in the moment, and made herself and Storm a very dangerous enemy in the process.
Jade Cargill Remains Undefeated As 2023 Begins
Blue & Red would start this match, trading near falls on the mat with some roll ups. Blue would hit the knee strike to the spine of Red, before Hogan got the tag and kept the pressure on her former partner. Red would take a piledriver, before being driven into the corner – meaning Cargill was able to tag in.
The TBS Champion would quickly slam Blue face first into the match, showing Red how it’s done. Cargill would send Blue to the floor and smash her face first off the apron, and broke up the count to keep the beating coming. Blue would try to fight back, but found little damage with her strikes.
Back in the ring, Cargill showed off her power with a press slam with Blue slipping free. Hogan got the tag, but walked into the Eye of The Storm slam for a two count. Cargill would signal for Jaded, but tagged Red in instead to end this match. Hogan would regain the advantage, putting Red in the corner for a huge sliding kick.
Once again, Cargill would save the match – hitting the ring with speed and power, taking out Blue with a pump kick before a chokeslam to Hogan. Now, even Red couldn’t blow the match – but was sick of being berated. She’d leave Cargill to fight alone, nearly leading to a roll up finish – with Hogan getting a 2.9, before falling to the Pump Kick.
All Out Brawl Before The Bell Even Rings
The last time Darby Allin faced Samoa Joe, his mind was clouded with some serious doubts. He was questioning if anyone believed he can defeat someone like Samoa Joe, and that might have been what caused him to lose – causing him to miss a chance to become a two time TNT Champion. Entering his hometown with another chance could have led to extra doubts, as this town is full of people who laughed at his dreams. However Sting said it best, when he said it doesn’t matter who believes in Allin – so long as he believes in himself.
Allin would start this fight on the floor after Joe went after future AEW star Nick Wayne in the front row. Using his skateboard, Allin would beat down Joe before jumping off the stage and onto the back of Joe. Allin then grabbed a ladder, diving onto Joe with a Swanton Bomb. Finally both men hit the ring and the match was official. Joe was sent to the floor with a dropkick, and would catch a diving Allin with a Uranage onto the steel steps.
Allin would crawl up to the apron and used the ropes to find his feet, only to be driven head first into the ring post. In the ring, Joe hit a PK to set up an elbow drop, with Allin avoiding and looking for a Rear Naked Choke – with Joe just standing up and driving himself down back first, crushing Allin.
Darby Allin Uses Samoa Joe’s Own Attempt At Cheating
Joe would keep the damage coming, hit a double knee breaker on Allin – trying to pick apart his challenger body part by body part. Allin would struggle up to his feet, and was kicked down moments later. Muscle Buster would be set out of the corner, with Allin slipping free and trying for an O’Connor Roll.
Joe would tear the turnbuckle pad off, before applying the Rear Naked Choke. Allin nearly blocked into a pinfall for the win, but only got two. Joe would block the Stunner into another Rear Naked Choke. Allin was able to use the corner that Joe exposed before a Code Red and two Coffin Drops to become the NEW TNT CHAMPION!
