With a little over a week before Super Bowl LVII, Josh Sills, offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been indicted on kidnapping and sexual assault charges dating back to December 2019.
Eagles Player Josh Sills Indicted on Sexual Assault and Kidnapping Charges as Philly Prepares for Super Bowl LVII Showdown Against Kansas City
The alleged incident occurred in Guernsey County, Ohio when Sills, then 21 years old, was preparing to transfer to Oklahoma State University. According to Guernsey County prosecutors, Sills “engaged in sexual activity that was not consensual and held a victim against her will.”
An investigation was performed by the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office and apparently there was enough there to push the case. A grand jury agreed and indicted Josh Sills on one count of rape and one count of kidnapping. Both charges are classed as felonies in Ohio.
If the case goes to trial and Sills is found guilty of rape, he is looking at a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years in prison along with a fine of up to $20,000. The kidnapping charge is treated more severely with the degree being the determining factor.
Kidnapping in the first degree comes with a sentence of 15 years to life with a fine of up to $20,000 in Ohio. A second-degree charge comes with a sentence of 10 years to life and up to $10,000 in fines.
Whether the Eagles win or lose, Sills will be due in court days later on February 16, 2023.
