According to authorities, the shooting stemmed from a local feud involving Angel Uriarte and Sureños member Eladio Parraz (52). Several years earlier in 2014, Uriarte shot at Parraz’s girlfriend and was sent to prison. Parraz was one of those killed and several members of his family were also victims.
Included were Rosa Parraz, aged 72; Jennifer Analla, 49; Marcos Parraz, aged 19; 16-year-old Alissa Parraz and her 10-month-old son Nycholas. Footage exists of Alissa trying to save her child by putting him over a tall fence and then hopping over another fence in hopes of escaping the shooting.
A hooded man walked up behind her and drew his gun. The scene stopped there but the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office believes that Alissa and her child were shot by Noah Beard.
Following the shooting, both men apparently split up as the Sheriff’s Office and federal agents were on the hunt. Beard was arrested in Visalia at one of three locations being searched. In Goshen, Angel Uriarte was cornered by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. He opened fire on the agents and was shot down in the ensuing gunfight.
Their arrests come as part of the larger “Operation Nightmare” raids which targeted the Norteños. Uriarte is currently in the hospital and his court appearance was moved to February 21, 2023. He could face additional charges for shooting at an ATF agent. Beard pleaded not guilty to the charges as well as felony drug and firearms charges from a separate case.
Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said that the incident should be a death penalty case and asked for the sentence to be reinstated. The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office hasn’t made a call as far as what sentencing will be pursued.
