WWE Friday Night SmackDown is upon us. Below you will see recaps and results from the show as they come. Very little was announced in advance for this show barring a MizTV segment with the two challenging teams the Usos and the New Day, and an appearance from John Cena.
Segment 1: In the first segment of the night, we had MizTV except instead of the usual with Miz and Morrison starting in the ring, the Usos were the first men out there to call out both other teams and guarantee their victory in the three way tag team ladder match at WrestleMania. The New Day come out and argue that they’re the ones who would’ve won last week. Miz and Morrison emerge and climb up ladders on the stage to pose. The challengers come down to pull them off the ladders, a brawl breaks out and the champs end up winning out, before again climbing the ladders and posing with their titles, standing quite tall.
Segment 2: In the first match of the night, Sasha Banks and Bayley were on commentary for a triple threat match involving the other three challengers for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. On comm, Sasha and Bayley were on each other’s side but had a disagreement or two to continue teasing a quiet dissension. Eventually they both interfered in the match, Bayley cost Naomi and Tamina got the pin. Bayley and Sasha then attempted to get on Tamina’s good side but she took them both out, a superkick to Bayley and a Samoan Drop to Sasha Banks.
Segment 3: Next up, they air the Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair WrestleMania 24 match in it’s entirety, Flair’s final WWE match.
Segment 4: They casually announce that Goldberg will be defending his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman at WrestleMania, not giving any reason whatsoever for Roman Reigns being taken out of the match or even bringing up his name at all. Backstage, Otis gets a text message that makes him excited but we don’t see why. Tucker Knight then faced off with Dolph Ziggler. The match ended in DQ after a Zig Zag onto the steps. Otis came out to make the save, but then the Hacker who has been sending cryptic messages for a while shows off the footage of Sonya Deville sending the text to Otis that made him late, and later of her conspiring with Dolph to make it happen.
Segment 5: Daniel Bryan faced off with Shinsuke Nakamura in a good competitive bout but the match ended in DQ when Cesaro broke up the Yes Lock. Drew Gulak tried to help out but the heels won out on the 3-on-1, then laid out Daniel Bryan, hitting their finishes in a row in the ring.
Segment 6: John Cena enters the ring and says that the Fiend likes to revel in the uncertainty that surrounds WrestleMania and even the Firefly Funhouse match that he’s challenged him to. Cena promises to squash the Fiend and makes it sound like he’s gonna bury him and end his career forever. Bray Wyatt’s Funhouse puppets appear in the front row to mock Cena, the Fiend appears on the Perch and Bray Wyatt himself pops up behind Cena to growl “LET ME IN” and spook him before they all disappear, leaving Cena alone to close the show.
