Bellator play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo left a mark on wrestling with his work on WWE broadcasting—particularly with NXT—and New Japan. He’s an announcer that many would love to see back in wrestling calling the action. The obvious pick would be AEW or ROH given how his time in WWE ended and resulted in him voicing the importance of mental health.
AEW Announcer Jim Ross Doesn’t Believe AEW Would be a Good Fit for Fellow Former WWE Announcer Mauro Ranallo
During the K & S WrestleFest virtual signing, a user in chat brought up Collision and asked who was the commentary team. JR said that he didn’t know prompting another fan to mention Mauro joining the commentary team in some way.
Jim Ross touched on the potential for Mauro Ranallo calling matches in AEW. After all, the man had been the lead commentator for NXT during its most-hyped period and for SmackDown. He has the experience of calling a nationally or globally broadcasted wrestling program.
Besides NXT and with the addition of WCW broadcasting and RAW, Jim Ross has the experience behind the booth to discuss another acclaimed announcer’s prospects. However, if fans figured JR would jump on board with that suggestion or give a general statement on Ranallo, they were in for the opposite.
JR feels differently about the chances of fans seeing Ranallo in the company and told the chat:
“He’s a friend of mine (J.R said about Mauro Ranallo)…No (I don’t see him coming to AEW). He has mental health issues. He can help any organization, Mauro. Mauro Ranallo is that good. But he’s not a great traveler and that’s not knocking Mauro. It’s just he has issues that are more important than who’s doing Dynamite next week.” (h/t: POST Wrestling)
Jim Ross can shut down speculation with the best of them with a statement about something being bigger than wrestling. In this case, it’s Ranallo’s mental health struggles when asked about him joining AEW. Perhaps the question and suggestion were something JR had heard constantly already and it was a “This question again” response. Or it’s just as his quote states without annoyance but noting that it’s a traveling business and Mauro doesn’t do that well in his experience.
Let us know what you think of JR’s answer in the comments.
