While Mexico suffers from the Covid-19 pandemic, Caristico sat down to talk with CMLL Informa.
Caristico is arguably one of the most recognizable faces in the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Fans will remember Caristico as the original Mistico.
As Mistico, the current Caristico was the most popular luchador in all of Mexico in the mid-2000s. “El enmascarado de plata” (the silver mask) wowed fans and tourists throughout his career in the Cathedral on Fridays in Mexico City. He impressed WWE and was signed, later alongside Alberto del Patron – son of Dos Caras.
His stay in WWE was unpleasant, hail as a megastar in CMLL, he never learned the language and was sloppy in the ring. He was supposed to be the replacement of Rey Mysterio, but this never happened. His gimmick, Sin Cara, became a habitual luchador in WWE, with Caristico later replaced by another wrestler – now, Cinta de Oro.
When he went back to Mexico, he did not join immediately with CMLL. He first moved to AAA and Elite Lucha Libre, finally landing once again in his previous home. Moreover, his character was taken by Dragon Lee (now Mistico II) aka one of the member of the Muñoz family, which include the current Dragon Lee and Rush. He took the Caristico gimmick, and once again became a popular star – but never reaching the heights of his early career.
Per Planeta Wrestling, Caristico sat down with CMLL Informa on a possible match against Ultimo Guerrero. The latter is a veteran and a grand star in the company. Here’s what the report:
The rivalry that has been waiting for a long time is against Ultimo Guerrero and not only a heads-up, a mask vs. hair.
Once I beat the Ultimo Guerrero who will never forget me, and he told me: ‘the day that you beat me cleanly hand in hand in the center of the ring, I give you the opportunity of mask vs. hair’. I’m still waiting for it.
Caristico also recalled how the conversation with Paco Alonso occurred when he left WWE and the same CMLL president sought him out after a year.
It should be remembered that a year of non-competition had to pass for the contract with McMahon, therefore he could not return to the Mexico Arena before.
Something that Dr. Karonte’s son did make clear was that he wants to retire at the CMLL since it was the company that saw him born as a star.
