It’s been a hard road, but we’re at the finals of the AEW World Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament, American Bracket! Ryo Mizunami already won the Japanese bracket, beating Yuka Sakazaki last night, but tonight we find out who Mizunami will face on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite! It’s either Nyla Rose who beat Tay Conti & Britt Baker to get here, or Thunder Rosa who had Leyla Hirsch & Riho. These are two of the best in the company today, but only one moves forward.
Nyla Rose Shows Her Power
As soon as Nyla hit the ring, she called for Rosa to get in and fight her. Nyla shoved Rosa away on the opening lock up, showing her power advantage. Rosa would show her technical prowess with a standing switch before some round kicks to the leg of Nyla. Nyla caught the crossbody attempt of Rosa, but couldn’t complete the powerslam.
Rosa slipped to the back of Nyla, but was driven into the corner which dropped her. Nyla quickly was locked in an ankle lock, but Rosa couldn’t get the full application. Rosa stayed on the leg with a single leg crab, focusing on that limb.
Nyla got the ropes, and threw Rosa out of the ring. She’d be driven into the barricade and the side of the ring before crumbling in pain. Nyla took this one back into the ring and hit a quick body splash before hitting a second one to the back for a near fall. Rosa found herself in a dragon suplex, and Nyla added some backbreakers into the mix as well.
Nyla would shrug off some blows, but a missed spear in the corner saw her hit the ring post. Rosa took advantage and sent Nyla off the apron, before diving off with a crossbody onto Nyla. Nyla feigned injury, only to sucker Rosa in and take control in the ring with another big backbreaker.
Thunder Rosa Tries To Overcome The Odds
The second Rosa thought she had some space, Nyla would spike her in the middle of the ring with a big slam. Nyla went up top, and Rosa pulled her down by her leg. Rosa followed up with the running knee strike in the corner, the double knee in the lower corner, and a shotgun dropkick. Nyla took another dropkick, this time off the top rope, but it only got a near fall.
Rosa couldn’t get the suplex off due to the back damage, but Nyla easily dropped her on the middle rope. Nyla dove in with the knee drop to the back, but only got a two count. Rosa would snap Nyla into a Death Valley Driver, getting a near fall.
Nyla would be hit with a stunner and a backdrop driver, but another near fall was all we got. Rosa came off the top rope, but was caught with a Beast Bomb to end this one in an instant! Dives are called high risk for a reason.
This was on par with Nyla Rose’s matches with the likes of Riho & Hikaru Shida, placing it among the best in her AEW career. Thunder Rosa continues to prove to be a valuable asset to AEW, and is almost certainly a future champion, but likely had other plans in the works for Revolution. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
