There will be a truly heavyweight night of boxing for fans to look forward to this weekend. The main event on the night will see the WBC interim heavyweight title on the line, as Dillian Whyte looks to avenge only his second career defeat against Alexander Povetkin.
It will be the rematch that the world have been waiting for, as Whyte was stunningly knocked out in the fifth round of their contest last year. However, as well as the engrossing main event, there will be a stellar undercard for fans to look forward to this weekend, including the debut for Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell.
Boxing News: Campbell Hatton Makes In-Ring Debut
All eyes will be on the undercard this weekend, as the long-awaited debut for Campbell Hatton makes up a fight that will be taking place before the heavyweight contest. It will be the first professional fight that the super featherweight has had, but the anticipation is high given what his father achieved throughout his illustrious career.
It was announced by Matchroom on social media that his first opponent would be Jesus Ruiz. The Mexican opponent is certainly no stranger to the ring, and his experience could be a crucial factor when they step into the ring this weekend. Ruiz has fought on 55 occasions in the past, and he has won 41 times. Of his wins, he has won 29 times by knockout. However, he has been beaten on nine occasions and has drawn five times. The 31-year-old was last in the ring in February last year as he lost to Carlos Castro.
Boxing News: Other Undercard Bouts
The fight that will be taking place just before the main event will see the British super-welterweight title on the line, as Ted Cheeseman takes on James Metcalf. Cheeseman has won 16 of his 19 professional bouts, with his only two defeats coming against Sergio Garcia and Scott Fitzgerald. Meanwhile, Metcalf is yet to lose a professional bout, as he has won all 21 previous bouts. His last win came in February last year, as he beat Jan Balog by TKO.
There will also be more heavyweight action on the undercard, as Fabio Wardley faces the biggest challenge of his career to date as he comes up against former world title contender Eric Molina. Wardley has won all ten previous fights, with nine wins coming by knockout. Molina will be looking to avenge his recent defeat against Filip Hrgovic, which was his sixth loss of his career. His previous defeats have come against talented heavyweights in the form of Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua and Dominic Breazeale.
