At AEW Double or Nothing, Anthony Ogogo will take on Cody Rhodes in his first true big match. The feud has become about American Values for Cody Rhodes, something which has struck a negative cord with many wrestling fans. However, Ogogo cares about winning matches, and tonight he looks to do just that when he takes on Austin Gunn of the Nightmare Family one on one. We’ve previously seen that it just takes one punch for Ogogo to get a win, but can Gunn drag him into deep waters with Rhodes in his corner?
Anthony Ogogo Has Fists Of Steel
Ogogo would be backed by The Factory in this one, but Gunn wasn’t intimidated. He rushed in with a shotgun dropkick as the match started, and would do his best to take control. Ogogo was mostly blind in his left eye, so Gunn would trip the left leg and hit a neck snap.
However, when Ogogo got back to his feet, he’d nail a punch to the ribs. Gunn was barely able to get up, and used the ropes. He was bleeding from the mouth, but got up and took a second punch. Gunn didn’t let the referee stop this, and would use Ogogo to pull himself up. Ogogo would hit a pop up punch to the jaw, and Gunn was knocked unconscious.
Cody Rhodes Is Ready For This Fight
Rhodes would rush into the ring to check on Gunn, and Ogogo grabbed and threw the American Flag aside. The AEW officials would come to the ring to keep things apart, as Ogogo grabbed the UK flag and held it up proudly.
This feud has failed to capture the attention of fans due to it using a stale patriotic formula, and with Ogogo openly calling out the flaws of America online and in promos? He’s almost coming off as the face in terms of character, but tonight he might as well be named Ivan Drago. He tore Gunn apart, and we will have to see Rhodes show more heart than ever at Double Or Nothing.
