Ring Of Honor Results: Fred Yehi Submits Rocky Romero In Close Pure Rules Battle

When you look at the current landscape of professional wrestling, one man stands out as perhaps the hardest worker. This is Rocky Romero, who over the next week will have matches aired with New Japan Pro Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling, Impact Wrestling, and Ring Of Honor. His biggest challenge might be in ROH tonight however, as he takes on the ‘SavageWeight’ Fred Yehi in a pure rules match. Romero is keen on climbing the ranks and winning the Pure Rules Championship, and after a win over Delirious, this is the next step.

Rocky Romero Tries To Figure Yehi Out

Code of Honor would be adhered too, and the bell would ring on this Pure Rules match. This one has a 15 minute time limit, and both men only get three rope breaks. Yehi would look to take Romero down early, but Romero would go for the legs. Romero got him in a deathlock, before Yehi showed his power and lifted him up into a neck crank before shoving him off completely.

After a commercial break, we’d see both men standing and throwing kicks in the middle of the ring. Romero grabbed a headlock on Yehi, and was able to take him down the mat. Yehi was able to get back up, shove Romero off and take him down with a shoulder tackle. Romero was able to recover, absorb a chop before taking Yehi back down.

Yehi would finally get a headscissor applied, and was able to get control. Romero forced Yehi to use his first rope break to prevent another headlock takeover. Yehi responded by slamming Romero down into the middle of the ring.

Romero would launch a dropkick, but missed and had his fingers stomped into the ring. Yehi took firm control, and would focus on that arm and wrist, lifting Romero up into the air before slamming him back down. Another stomp to the hand, and Yehi would lift Romero up high once again.

Romero would slip behind Yehi this time, and grab a wrist lock of his own before hitting a knee strike to the midsection. A shoulder breaker and a well placed kick would send Yehi into the corner, but he’d stop Romero from gaining the momentum often found with the Forever Lariats with a back elbow strike. Romero came back with a quick armbreaker, before another commercial break broke the action up.

Fred Yehi Knows How To Close A Match Out

Back from the break, we’d see that Romero has continued wearing down the arm of Yehi, including using a knee drop to the elbow from the middle rope. Ten minutes in, Yehi would look for a desperate sleeper hold before Romero threw him over his shoulder. Yehi reacted quick and looked for a Koji Clutch, but Romero was able to counter.

A spinning chop under the ear of Romero dropped him, and Yehi quickly nailed a Fisherman Suplex for a two count. Romero looked for the Diablo Armbar, but Yehi would use his second rope break to escape. Some kicks to the arm would do more damage, before Romero looked for Sliced Bread. Yehi countered, and when Romero tried to go to the middle rope, he’d be yanked into the middle of the ring.

A quick stomp was followed by Yehi lifting Romero up for a snap exploder suplex. Koji Clutch was applied, but Romero blocked the full application and used a rope break. Yehi hit a few rope assisted stomps, before Romero used the ropes for an armbreaker. A dropkick to the back got Romero another chance at Diablo Armbar, with less than a minute left.

Yehi countered out, blocked a knee strike, hit a forearm smash and kicked Romero in the head. He applied the Koji Clutch, and Romero realized that he had nowhere to go. With twenty seconds left on the clock, Romero taps out.

Pure Rules matches have been the best thing about ROH since they came back, and this was another perfect example. These two kept it all in the ring, and put on a technical wrestling clinic. Romero helped make Yehi look like a star, without sacrificing his own image in a hard fought match. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)

Fred Yehi now goes on to face World Famous CB in a match to determine who will face Jonathan Gresham next. Can he keep his Pure Rules win streak alive? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
