There comes a time where any wrestler knows when its time to call it quits. They don’t want their fans to see them become an inferior version of themselves, they want to go out on the top of their game. This is the case with AJ Styles. He might have signed a new contract last year with WWE, but it is likely to be his last as a full time wrestler.
AJ Styles Speaks On If His Career Is Soon To End
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Styles was asked the question of if he was nearing the end of his road as a wrestler. He had the following to say. “I think I am. As you get older, you’re like, ‘where the freak did my energy go? Why don’t I have that useless burst of energy?’ You can see that start to deplete. I don’t want to be an AJ Styles where they go, ‘I wish he could still do that. He’s really slow.’ I don’t want that. I want to be that AJ Styles that people will remember and go out that way. Will I be like I was when I was 25? There’s no way. It’s just not possible.”
This is the same philosphy that Jushin Thunder Liger followed on his recent path to retirement. He showed age in his matches, but was still at a level where he could perform. He didn’t want to become someone who overdid his time in the ring. People like Liger & AJ Styles will always find another role in professional wrestling. Liger is a coach at the NJPW Dojo in Japan, and you can assume that AJ Styles will find a role in the WWE Performance Center when he finally decides to retire.
What Has Styles Been Up To?
Styles is currently wrapped up in a feud with Randy Orton as part of Monday Night RAW, which started after Orton helped Rey Mysterio in beating AJ Styles to become the United States Champion. Orton & Styles have previously clashed at Wrestlemania and on a few other occassions, but fans think there is a better match than we’ve seen yet waiting to be uncovered between these two. We could very well see this build go all the way to Wrestlemania once again, but we will have to wait and see where they finally lock up for their next big match. We can also assume we will see both men in the Royal Rumble, maybe one will eliminate the other to further their feud. I could see Randy Orton throwing AJ Styles over the top rope, only for O.C members Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson to gang up on Orton to eliminate him. They have plenty of options to keep this feud fresh.
