This past week on AEW Dynamite, the legendary Dustin Rhodes put his career on the line. If he was not able to beat the upstart Kip Sabian, he was going to retire from professional wrestling, ending his 31 year career. He was able to walk away with the victory, but is his career still in danger? His next opponent is the Murderhawk Monster, who very well could play the role of Ivan Drago to Dustin Rhodes Apollo Creed on next weeks episode of AEW Dynamite.
The TNT Championship Tournament Was Built Around Lance Archer & Cody
Ever since Archer came to AEW, he has had a target on Cody Rhodes who has done everything he can to avoid him. With Lance Archer as one of the two finalists from the B side of the bracket, Cody won’t be able to avoid him much longer. The storyline between them has lacked stakes however, but that could be changed at the expense of the legendary Dustin Rhodes. With the idea of retirement now placed in the heads of AEW fans, fans are now braced for the inevitable. We could see AEW tease the end of the career of Dustin Rhodes after a brutal beatdown from Lance Archer. This would only motivate Cody to take down Archer, finally giving their story the stakes it needed.
Dustin Rhodes Being Brutalized Could Cost Cody His Match
Depending on what order the tournament matches take place next week, it could influence the results. Lance Archer will of course face Dustin Rhodes, but Cody Rhodes will face Darby Allin. Allin has already come dangerously close to beating Cody in the past, so with the added stress of his brother potentially being injured, and that could be the only thing Darby needs to finally win. This would delay the match between Archer & Cody, allowing them to really build this storyline to a fever pitch and have Cody get revenge in front of an arena full of AEW fans. Darby vs. Archer is just as good a title match, and doesn’t need to be saved.
Do you think AEW will put the career of Dustin Rhodes on the line to make Lance Archer into an absolute killer? Would this be a waste? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
