While the last time All Elite Wrestling would suspend one of their talents, it was for misbehavior off camera, this time it’s purely storyline. Following his match with Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship on Night One of Fyter Fest, Hager was pissed. He had applied his signature chokehold to Cody, and that was it. Hager should have been champion in that moment, but that was not the case. Cody would reverse into a quick pinfall, the referee would count to three, and Cody wouldn’t tap out or pass out. The bell would ring, and Hager would celebrate before noticing his music was not playing. He flew into a rage, and dropped the referee on the spot, before realizing his mistake.
Jake Hager Is Suspended For Ten Days
Alongside an ‘undisclosed’ fine, Hager will be out of action for ten days. This suspension is exactly long enough to ensure that Hager isn’t around for the match between Chris Jericho & Orange Cassidy next week on Night Two of Fyter Fest. You have to believe that this is the core reason for this suspension in the first place. Sammy Guevara is facing a much more real suspension, Santana & Ortiz can be easily neutralized by Best Friends, but Hager would have been a looming issue. This fixes this, and very well could lead to Chris Jericho losing to Orange Cassidy.
Chris Jericho Has Relied On Backup
Ever since he would form The Inner Circle on the first episode of AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho has had someone in his corner for big matches. His AEW Championship match with Jon Moxley was an unofficial five on one handicap match, showing this dynamic perfectly. Now going into a match with Orange Cassidy, he will only have Santana & Ortiz, who are fairly easy to remove from the equation.
Now remember that Jericho has issues with Mike Tyson, something which he referenced again on commentary this past Wednesday. It would be hard for AEW to keep under wraps, but Tyson hiding in the crowd only to reveal himself at the last second and knock out Jericho, giving Orange Cassidy the win? That just feels like something that might happen.
