That day finally came on Sunday afternoon, as Marcelo Bielsa took his Leeds side to Old Trafford.
The game was effectively over after the first three minutes, as two goals from Scott McTominay put United 2-0 ahead. United went on to score two further goals in a hectic opening period through Bruno Fernandes and Victory Lindelof, before Leeds pulled one back through Liam Cooper. The home side continued to catch the eye in the second half, and Fernandes and Daniel James restored United’s advantage. Leeds managed to get one more goal to make it 6-2 through Stuart Dallas. However, the victory for United meant that they moved up to third, and are now just five points behind the reigning champions Liverpool with a game in hand.
Soccer News: Liverpool Win Big
It was also a huge victory for Liverpool this past weekend, as they scored seven against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. There have been many questions asked about the Reds this season, with many questioning whether the injuries that they have sustained will have a negative impact on their title challenge.
However, there was no sign that they were throwing in the towel on Saturday, as they emphatically put Palace in their place. Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino put the Reds in control at the break. Before, Firmino, Jordan Henderson and a brace for Salah put the cherry on the top of the cake. Liverpool maintained their lead at the top of the Premier League with the win, and they will now top the league table on Christmas Day for the second year in a row.
