I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here with a blow-by-blow of episode 3 of AEW Dark! AEW’s weekly YouTube show, featuring extra matches taped during the previous week’s AEW Dynamite! This episode of course emanates from Philadelphia and interestingly, features ECW legend and former WWE color commentator Taz on the broadcast booth! He and Excalibur will be calling the action. Let’s get into the blow-by-blow! We begin with the 0-1 Brandon Cutler against the 0-2 Joey Janela. While both are winless, Janela’s been in a number of impressive, hardcore oriented battles. He’s taken the likes of Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley…
Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here yet again for tonight’s episode of WWE Raw. Watch this space. Ric Flair opens the show, he’ll apparently be announcing the final member of his team for Crown Jewel. Ric says “God knows you need a champion, LeBron is gone, you need the Nature Boy.” He isn’t getting boos of course, just less cheers for it. Flair mentions Hogan’s team and says they’re great athletes or they wouldn’t be in pro wrestling, they’re great men or they wouldn’t be in WWE. But they’re not the Nature Boy’s team. He’s got the best hand to…
On this, the night of Bound For Glory 2019, I can’t help but reflect. Impact Wrestling is a storied company, one that a decade ago was at quite a high. But an almost inconceivable plummet followed. Years of shoddy, inconsistent booking brought about by constant shifts of creative heads, mixed with asinine business decisions. The company originally known as NWA: TNA went through rebrand after rebrand, fitting given their lack of identity. Once the undisputed #2 wrestling promotion in America, watched by nearly 2 million viewers on Spike TV, it was a shell of itself by the time that Scott…
Marko Stunt | Weaponizing A Weakness – What You Need To Know About 1/3 Of AEW’s The Jurassic Express
Marko Stunt, in spite of being a pretty innocuous lower carder on the surface, has become a point of contention in the IWC. This is not due to any scandals, poor performances or really even anything that he could control. Instead in 2019 we’re still finding ourselves having the same size and believability debates that have been going on for decades. Marko is after all very small, not just for a pro wrestler but in general. Mr. Fun Size is 5’2 and his weight is listed as ‘undisclosed’, but it’s accepted that he’s in the 100 pound range. And not…
Sorry, late again, guess Fridays are still sneaking up on me. Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to recap Friday Night SmackDown. We begin tonight with the IC title on the line. WWE Intercontinental Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Roman Reigns They begin fairly slow tying up as Sami Zayn is on commentary. Shinsuke gets Roman down and starts laying in knee drops. Roman fights back, whips Shinsuke to the ropes, big elbow. Samoan drop, Shinsuke bails as Sami comes in to console him. Roman looks for the drive-by, Sami pulls Shinsuke out of the way, leaving Roman to land…
I first became a wrestling fan in 2006. That was quite a ways ago now, but still feels very recent compared to most who speak on wrestling in the capacity that I do. As a pre-teen at the time, there was of course plenty about the business that I didn’t understand at first. Among them, was the value of one of the genre’s most beloved, celebrated non-wrestlers, one Mean Gene Okerlund. Naturally I hadn’t seen a lick of him during my first few years watching pro wrestling, and wouldn’t come to for quite a while. Not until the WWE Network…
We have a stacked episode of AEW Dynamite ahead of us tonight! You can see my preview of tonight’s proceedings right here. Two title matches, two tournament matches and a star-studded tag await us! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, here to recap the blow-by-blow as always. Watch this space! We kick things off tonight with the first of our Tag Team Title tournament matches! SCU emerge… but the Lucha Bros come out to jump them on the rampway! Fenix gets Kazarian with a ridiculously hard posting! Penta has Daniels hooked… Package Piledriver onto the ramp! Jesus! Fenix hooking Kazarian…
Time for another preview of NXT. They have some serious issues to overcome in this Wednesday Night War, but thankfully, show quality is not one of them. I expect another great night of action tonight. Let’s look into the three advertised matches! Tommaso Ciampa vs. Angel Garza After a long seven months, Ciampa is finally back in action for NXT! He should return with a bang here against an exciting talent. Angel’s a fantastic athlete and has the makings of a major heel. But tonight’s not his night, to be blunt. He’ll probably give Ciampa a good test on…
Alright, so I’m a bit of a stan for AEW, I’m not gonna shy away from that. But I gotta say, I think even looking at it objectively, this is a pretty stacked episode of AEW Dynamite we have in store tonight. AEW’s bringing quite the five matches to Philly. Let’s go ahead and look into ’em! AEW World Tag Team Title Tournament Round 1 – SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) vs. Best Friends The tag team title tournament got onto an explosive start last week with Private Party scoring a huge upset win over the Young Bucks to…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7_nxdftYks AEW Dark, for those unaware, is AEW’s newest YouTube show. It’s something of a sister program to AEW Dynamite. The show is similar to the likes of HEAT or Xplosion, with matches additionally filmed before and after Dynamite. However this show is presented as a much bigger deal, with wins and losses still factoring into the records. It’s also morphing to more take the place of the Road To episodes that were a regular staple leading up to the promotion’s initial PPVs as well as the premiere of Dynamite. This week, in addition to the usual AEW Dark matches,…
