I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
– In some WWE news, Sasha Banks has made one of her sporadic social media posts again. For the uninitiated, Sasha has been out of action in WWE since WrestleMania, a storied leave of absence that has long been rumored to stem for her displeasure for losing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles so quickly. It’s said that her concern was that they would cut the legs out from the championships, devaluing them before they ever got the chance to become prestigious. Looking at how the IIconics’ run has gone so far, uh, yes, that happened. Since then, Sasha has…
– In AEW news, MJF has continued to throw barbs at Shawn Spears at every given opportunity. Spears is embroiled in a rivalry with Cody Rhodes, MJF’s on-screen mentor and alleged closest compadre. Ever since Spears cut Cody open with a vile chairshot back at Fyter Fest, MJF has made it known how much he despises his very existence. He took it a step further in a recent Facebook post, however. After once again calling Spears a ‘piece of s***’, before claiming in no uncertain terms that he’d just slept with Spears’ fiancee. Spears’ fiancee just so happens to be…
Hello everybody! As of last night, Impact Unbreakable 2019 is in the books. With that in mind, you can see a quick rundown of the results below. Check it out! Impact Unbreakable 2019: – In tag action, Ray Rosas & Peter Avalon defeated Chris Bey & Watts via pinfall at the 7:35 mark after an assisted Death Valley Driver. – A big multi-man match saw X-Division Champion Jake Crist retain his title over Trey, Ace Austin, Danny Rivera and Adrian Quest. Crist pinned Rivera after a cutter at the 9:55 mark. – Madison Rayne defeated Ayoka Muhara via pinfall after…
As I write this article, AAA’s premier event of the year, TripleMania XXVII is actually on-going. One of the biggest stories of the show involves star MMA fighter Cain Velasquez finally making his long talked about wrestling debut. The two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion will form a very curious team, as he pairs up with the rather self-explanatory Psycho Clown and AEW EVP Cody Rhodes. The triumvirate will face Texano Jr., Taurus and a mystery partner. It’s quite the guest spot for AAA, but according to F4WOnline, it’s not just a one-off. He’s been taking his wrestling training very seriously and…
It’s official, another big sellout for a major AEW event. This one’s a truly historic one, the first-ever broadcast of AEW on TNT, emanating from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. And true to form, and true to my own expectations, it sold out pretty damn quickly. It took ever so slightly over three hours. But honestly, it’s even more staggering in reality than it appears on the surface. Because this happened amidst a monumental struggle from their provider, Ticketmaster. I dare say they weren’t even close to prepared for the demand of this show, as the amount of…
There has been much said about The Undertaker in recent months, in recent years honestly, suggesting he should really hang up the boots. And when they say that, they say it for his own good. I myself touched on the issue in one of my earliest articles here at The Overtimer. The fact of the matter is, pretty much any wrestling fan you could ever meet will tell you that they absolutely love The Undertaker. He’s one of the most cherished and respected men in the history of the industry. So if people are saying he should retire, you know…
When AEW comes to TNT on October 2nd, it will be an historic night. We already knew that much would be true before we had any idea what would be taking place there. But over the past few days, leading up to the tickets for the event going on sale tomorrow morning, we have been bombarded with announcements about this show. Every day it’s something! First, a match between EVP Cody Rhodes and up-and-comer Sammy Guevara was officially signed. Some are reporting that this will be the first match to take place when the show goes to air. Another match…
Not to state the obvious, but things sure do change fast in wrestling. Case in point: SummerSlam. The biggest party of the summer, WWE SummerSlam 2019 is going down on August 11th, just ten days away as of this writing. And yet two of the biggest matches on the card evidently still haven’t been made official yet. Last night, I speculated on who Roman Reigns’ mystery assailant could’ve been. And two nights ago, I reported on WWE’s announcement of Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz at SummerSlam. But as of today, both of those may already be outdated, because that’s just…
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one El Hijo del Fantasma is expected to take part in WWE’s Camp in September. El Hijo del Fantasma is better known to some, including myself, as Lucha Underground’s King Cuerno. WWE has been noted to have interest in El Hijo del Fantasma/Cuerno dating back to Lucha Underground’s first season. However, that promotion has been renowned for their incredibly strict, exclusive contracts and so WWE has been unable to pursue him until very recently. From my experience, I can tell you that Cuerno is a very good worker, one that shows dedication to a…
Per a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning to go back to fully split rosters for Raw and SmackDown Live by the time SmackDown makes it’s move to Fox in October. It’s fair to say that the situation with the roster split has been in disarray for the last few months. In April we had our usual Superstar Shake-Up, but then the very next week they announced a new wrinkle. The Wildcard Rule prescribed that three superstars from one show could appear on the opposing one per week. This was of course nominally changed to four on…
