Lucha Brothers to Work Exclusively in Mexico for AAA in 2020

It seems that days of the Lucha Brothers wrestling in The Crash and elsewhere are over. Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fanexi are expected to wrestle exclusively for AAA next year (2020). Previous reports by The Wrestling Observer and Konnan claimed that they were going exclusive for the Fall of this year (signing a contract). But, as it turnout, the Lucha Brothers worked The Crash in Tijuana and even DTU in Pachuca.

Lucha Blog, probably the best source for Lucha Libre, cleared the air around the issue. He (Lucha Blog) believes that it might have been some misunderstanding. In any case, the exclusive deal with AAA was expected, since the start, for the year 2020.

Fans will remember that in 2018 the Lucha Brothers returned officially to AAA. The company had a hold on their names and made their life insufferable while wrestling for The Crash Lucha Libre and other wrestling promotions. At one point, when Konnan was with The Crash, he talked to AAA officials about their hostility towards the promotion (The Crash) and they told him that it all centered around the Lucha Bros. When Penta Zero M and Fenix el Rey went back with AAA it was for a non-contract agreement.

Pentagon Jr. and Fenix became the hottest tag team in the independent scene in 2018. That meant that in Mexico, they worked for the top three promotions in the country: Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), AAA, and The Crash. The virtually wrestled everywhere in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The game-changer came with the All Elite Wrestling plan this year. They both approached the project as another big indy event. But later on, a contract was offered. For the Lucha Brothers, it was big. They were the hottest property in wrestling at that point and many companies, including WWE, wanted them in their lines. Fenix and Penta lock-up with AEW and later started appeared regularly for AAA. They won the AAA Tag Team titles and Fenix the AAA Mega title. It seemed that the bitterness of AAA went away thanks to the AEW-AAA agreement and the securing of the talented tag team.

Now for 2020, the Lucha Brothers are expected to continue with AAA exclusively in Mexico. Earlier in the year, they stopped appearing for CMLL. The Crash, which was their home while in exile, had more of a chance of having them until the end of the year. It is difficult to foresee a tag-team that is the embodiment of independence being lock-down in Mexico, but for now, that seems to be the plan.
