Ring Of Honor has started 2020 off great, especially after the messy year they had in 2019. They have started locking down key players like Bandido, they have a fresh champion in PCO, and they have put Marty Scurll on the creative team. They have to keep up this momentum, and they have done just that with their announcement for their 18th anniversary shows. We will see faces from the past of the company return to face off against the current stars. The 18th anniversary takes place on March 13th, and Past vs. Present happens the following night.
Who Will Be Returning To Ring Of Honor?
In the information revealed by Ring Of Honor on Twitter, they have confirmed that Doug Williams, Homicide, Matt Sydal, Necro Butcher, and many more would returning. Homicide is interesting as he is a former ROH Champion, having been the one to end the reign of Bryan Danielson in 2006. Fans immediately started clamoring for a Fight Without Honor between him and current ROH Champion PCO, as both would shine in an absolutely chaotic brawl.
Doug Williams is a former ROH Pure Champion, and only recently came out of retirement to work some matches for Pro Wrestling NOAH. It’s unclear how many more matches Williams will have, so fans of his can’t afford to miss any of them. Matt Sydal is a former ROH Tag Team Champion, having won the titles with Christopher Daniels, who will be unlikely to show up due to his commitments to AEW. With Marty in a position of power, that could be a first step in bridging the two companies together. Daniels case is the same for many big ROH alumni, they are working for other companies and will be unlikely to show up.
Is This Going To Help Ring Of Honor?
Nostalgia is a powerful thing, but so many important names will be unable to show up. Most of the biggest names in company history are unreachable, so it will depend on who else they can pull in to show up for this event. Iconic faces like Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, and Seth Rollins are all with WWE and I doubt WWE will let them go to ROH for a one off. Ring Of Honor will be letting us know more returning faces as the event gets closer, and as the card for both shows fills out. If they can get some more big names, they will be in a good position for this event.
