Chicano, El Ilegal, is arguably one of the best Puerto Rican wrestlers of the past 15 years. An IWA-PR Original, Chicano has wrestled in the best matches on the island in recent years.
Originally starting in International Wrestling Association (IWA PR), Chicano evolved from a Junior Heavyweight to one of the best Heavyweights on the island. He’s one of the few wrestlers to win the IWA PR World Championship and the historic World Wrestling Council (WWC) Universal Championship.
Chicano Claims That Psicosis Blocked Him from AAA
Back in 2010, Chicano was booked for two months in Lucha Libre AAA. The company at the time was in the middle of La Legion Extranjera’s story, having various outside wrestlers coming in. Chicano was named El Ilegal, wrestling with a mask and tagging alongside Zorro and the LAX original, Hernandez.
In a recent interview with Anthony Piñeiro, Chicano talked about his experience in AAA. He claims that he had a lot of fun and that, AAA was his WWE. Chicano at that point in time was in a crumbling IWA PR, ready to transition to the historic WWC of Carlos Colon.
Of course, Chicano wanted to stay longer in AAA. He wrestled with high-quality matches, doing extreme moves, including a Swanton bomb off a column. He remembered doing the move and later coming backstage and seeing Dorian Roldan excited about what they just saw. Fellow Puerto Rican wrestler Ricky Banderas aka El Mesias told Chicano that surely AAA was going sign him after that spectacle and that his month in the company was great.
And yet, Chicano didn’t get signed. The excuse at the time was, that AAA was in a relationship with Total Nonstop Action (TNA, now Impact Wrestling) and that, why would they get a Puerto Rican from a promotion unknown to many fans, when they can get bigger stars from a mainstream promotion like TNA. For Chicano, this made sense. But things changed when a fellow unnamed wrestler (probably Mesias), told him that the reason he did not get the job was because of the intervention of Nicho el Millonario in the AAA office.
Nicho Millonario is a former WCW Cruiserweight champion, Psicosis (Psychosis). It seems that a little rivalry started between Nicho and Chicano, and this culminated with Psicosis talking AAA out of signing the Boricua. Chicano said that AAA may as well dismissed this comment, but that, the wrestler who told him the story was “like a brother” to him. It’s sad that we did not get to see Chicano in AAA, later in his career he went back to Lucha Libre Elite alongside Mecha Wolf 450 and had a fantastic match against Tama Tonga.
