No longer will the WWE 2k games be the only game in town for professional wrestling fans, as newcomers AEW aren’t just going to compete in the ring, but on console now as well. They’ve been teasing the launch of the AEW Games department for weeks now, and today their site briefly went live, allowing eagle eyed fans to get some information. Here is what we know.
AEW Has A Console Game In The Works Made By Yukes
The first and biggest game, is a console offering. This will be the main games fans will sink their teeth into, and it’s being made by a veteran of the genre. Up until 2019, Yukes were in charge of making the WWE games. This partnership dates back years, all the way to WWF Smackdown on the PS1 to WWE 2k19 on Xbox One, PS4, & PC.
They were stuck with the horrible dev cycle of the 2k games for years, but still managed to often ship out a playable product, unless you count the 2K18 port for Nintendo Switch, which ran slower than Giant Gonzalez. Now, they’re working with AEW. This lets them build a game from the ground up, put their years of experience and passion to good use. We likely won’t see annual games from this partnership, which is all the better. This could be huge, but they have two more niche games in the works as well.
A Booking Sim & Casino: Double Or Nothing
Next up is AEW: Elite General Manager. This will likely be a game in the style of the WWE Smackdown vs. RAW GM mode, or Total Extreme Wrestling. You get to take the helm of AEW, and book them into the biggest promotion on earth. This type of mode has been something fans have been begging for for years now, and now AEW has an entire game of it planned.
Finally, AEW Casino: Double Or Nothing. This could honestly be anything, from a card collection game to mobile slots game. It feels like a very mobile gaming idea, but this is the least clear of the batch.
