Last week, history was made in WWE. For the first time since its inception in 2016, we had some women’s wrestling on 205 Live. The brand was created for the fast paced Cruiserweight division in WWE, and has been home to men like Cedric Alexander, Buddy Murphy, Neville and more.
However, the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was run in part on 205 Live, and there was a female bracket this year. This made Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell vs. Gigi Dolin & Cora Jade the first women’s match in 205 Live history. It won’t be the last, as tonight we see Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon face Marina Shafir & Zoey Stark. However, after the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic ends, should the women of NXT remain on 205 Live?
The 205 Live Roster Badly Needs Some Variety
While 205 Live often holds some of the best wrestling in all of WWE on a weekly basis, it has a very limited roster. This gives a lot of repeat matches, and you’ll usually see names like Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, Ever-Rise, and The Bollywood Boyz show up week after week. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic gave a much needed dose of variety, even if men like Timothy Thatcher & Killian Dain smashed the 205lb weight limit.
This tournament will quickly reach it’s conclusion, but there is no reason why the women of NXT can’t stick around. They will meet the weight limit with ease, with even powerhouses like Raquel Gonzalez only weighing in at 176lbs. NXT has one of the best rosters in the world for women’s wrestling, but there are only two hours on NXT for them to get exposure.
Placing them into the mix on 205 Live will give them extra TV time, give fans more great matches, and hopefully re-inject some life into the 205 Live brand. WWE could even use this to give the NXT women a much needed mid-card championship, similar to the NXT North American Championship, with matches based around the fast paced 205 Live style.
Do you think the women’s roster of NXT should be regularly featured on 205 Live? Would that help bring more viewers to the brand? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
