In WWE NXT, one name is finally starting to shine. After signing with the company all the way back in 2017 following the first Mae Young Classic, Xia Li only really started to get somewhere in NXT when she was mentored by Mei Ling in Tian Sha. Since then, she’s made her singles takeover debut, and next week she steps up to Raquel Gonzalez for a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship. However, tonight could be the biggest match of her career, as she has a dark match ahead of Smackdown.
Xia Li Is Set For The Biggest Match Of Her Career Tonight
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talent from NXT being involved in dark matches ahead of Smackdown Live. Karrion Kross, Bronson Reed, Shotzi Blackheart, Scarlett and now Xia Li have all been in dark matches now. Shotzi Blackheart has already been called up alongside the returning Tegan Nox. What makes the difference is that Xia Li doesn’t get a dark match in the WWE Thunderdome, but instead in front of live fans.
This will ensure that this is the biggest crowd Xia Li has ever had a singles match in-front of, but having previously been part of a Royal Rumble in 2019 wins her biggest crowd in general. However, tonight the focus will be on her and a strong performance could push her career to the next level. Her dark match was originally reported on Fightful Select.
A Higher Potential Ceiling On The Main Roster
Xia Li has arguably hit her peak in NXT at this point. She’s proven to be a solid worker in the ring, and her character work has never been better. However, she’s not someone expected to become NXT Women’s Champion. There might be a reign as NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion in her future, but that is it.
On the other hand, both Smackdown & RAW are both lacking in their women’s divisions currently, and Xia Li could really shine on either show. It could be a bit premature given her character is still being built up, but her random rise to championship contender might be a sign WWE is fast tracking her out of NXT.
