Thunder Rosa is gunning for a shot at the AEW World Women’s Championship, but to get to Britt Baker, she’s going to have to work her way up the rankings to get there. Tonight could be a good step towards this, as she faces off against the always impressive Penelope Ford. They’re both ranked in the top 5, making them steady contenders as All Out gets closer.
Penelope Ford Looks For Control
Rosa would get her face shoved to start this match, before taking a dropkick into the corner. Some chops would follow, before Ford tripped after being thrown across the ring. Ford would dodge as Rosa rushed in, before just being placed back where she started. A kick to the thigh would connect, before Ford was dumped over the ropes and dropkicked to the floor.
On the outside, Ford would gain some advantage as she would catch Rosa with a running cutter after shoving her into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Ford got a two count before choking Rosa on the ropes. She’d use all of the referee’s five count, before kicking away at Rosa. A knee drop to Rosa on the apron, furthered the control of Ford.
Thunder Rosa Outgrapples Penelope Ford
Rosa would push Ford into the corner and hit some back elbows, before a running one connected. Ford nailed some running big boots, but was dodged and hit with a lariat before a low dropkick. A butterfly suplex got Rosa a two count, before Ford would counter the Fire Thunder Driver into a rollup.
Ford would look to apply the Muta Lock, but Rosa had a counter. She’d roll out and get the Single Leg Crab, but Ford got the bottom rope. Damage was done and Rosa would hit an Airplane Spin into the Death Valley Driver for a two count. Ford came back with a big backbreaker before going for Muta Lock again and being countered. A chokehold was applied, and Rosa forced the submission.
This was the best match we’ve seen from Penelope Ford, as she would prove she can hang with Thunder Rosa. They had some great wrestling in this match, especially near the end as they worked on the mat. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
