Ring of Honor has been doing a fine job building up it’s women’s division throughout this tournament, and it’s time for the final first round match. On one side we have the imposing and violent Max The Impaler, who is by far the strongest woman in ROH. Her opponent is no slouch however, as Max is faced with Holidead. Despite only having 5 years of experience, Holidead is already one of the best prospects ROH has in this tournament. There is nothing that Max can do to her that she hasn’t already experienced.
Max The Impaler Shows Their Power
Max has been undefeated up to this point in ROH, and with Amy Rose in her corner? That’s to be expected. The cameramen were backing away during her entrance, but Holidead didn’t look too concerned as she stretched and prepared in the ring. Rose offered the handshake instead of Max, but it wasn’t accepted by Holidead.
They’d shove it out in the ring, Holidead wasn’t backing down. She’d shove Max into the corner, but was unable to do much. Max threw a heavy forearm, and Holidead came back hard. They would stand tall as Holidead threw harder and harder strikes, before they’d toss Holidead across the ring. A big headbutt and scoop slam followed, with Max picking up some serious momentum.
Holidead would march up to them and hit a headbutt and slam of her own, but Max just got right back back. Some lariats would follow from both, proving to be almost matched in power, though Max was winning out. Holidead was being bent in the ropes, but would ask if that’s all Max got. She’d try to apply a guillotine choke, but Max simply drove her into the corner.
Holidead Fails To Cut The Monster Down
Holidead to her credit would keep going, and could be looking to pull Max into deep water. Max chucked her with a suplex, before stomping her face right into the mat. Holidead would survive and hit a double arm DDT, but only found a one count. A huge spear from Max nearly took Holidead out of her boots, but she’d dodge the next and hit a German Suplex.
Keeping the pressure on, Holidead would follow Max as they rolled to the outside with dive. Back in the ring, Holidead looked for the Darkness Falls, before being dumped with a back body drop. A big spinebuster would plant Max into the mat, and Holidead went up for the leg drop but missed. A choke breaker would be followed by the Canadian Backbreaker for the win.
The two strongest competitors in this tournament threw everything they had at each other. It was a back and forth affair, but in the end Max the Impaler stayed undefeated. Matches like this bring variety to the division, and are always welcome. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
