Riho was sent out of the Casino Battle Royale at All Out through the middle and bottom ropes, which was not an official elimination. This led to her getting another chance to earn a title shot against Britt Baker, which Riho made the most of with a win over the champ herself. Now, Jamie Hayter has a chance to shut the momentum of Riho down before her title shot.
Cody Rhodes Gunning For TNT Championship #3 – Ethan Page Claims Dan Lambert Will Return
Before this match could get started, we’d check in on the TNT Champion. Joined by Tony Schiavone, Sammy Guevara would talk about his open challenge. 70 days now, he’s been running open challenges for the TNT Championship. Someone who knows about open challenges is Cody Rhodes, who is still burnt up from the Atlanta Street Fight. On the Christmas special for AEW, he will face Cody Rhodes.
Ethan Page would take some offense to this, saying he had to jump through hoops to get the title match. Maybe if he was an EVP and kissed Tony Khan’s ass – he’d get some more shots. Dan Lambert got him his shot, and he’s coming back. Scorpio Sky would point out that Guevara is avoiding those in the top five, but Guevara seemed ready to fight.
Riho Gets Beaten Up By Jamie Hayter
Hayter brought Britt Baker & Rebel to this match, while Riho came alone. Dwarfed in size, Riho would be shoved into the corner by Hayter – but her 15 years of experience is not to be underestimated. She’d slip free and nail some forearm blows before being driven back into the corner. Hayter ran the distraction while Baker made the cheap attack.
Riho was undaunted, getting the flying headscissor to set up the 619 and diving crossbody for a two count. Hayter slipped outside, and caught the next crossbody attempt to drive her into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Hayter would beat her down while ragdolling her across the ring. Riho was being humiliated by the champion at ringside, and that was getting her fired up.
She’d start the comeback, before taking a massive backbreaker. Riho rolled Hayter through and nailed a big double stomp, taking the breath of Hayter away. A rollup got two, but Riho couldn’t follow up with the Dragon Suplex on the first attempt. The second one spiked Hayter on her head, but only got a two count. Hayter came back with a brainbuster for a two count, before the choke breaker for another near fall.
Single leg crab would be applied, but Riho would be able to get free. Jumping knee strike and a huge Code Red would get yet another near fall – but one of the first of the match for Riho. Going up top, Riho would nail the double foot stomp, but Hayter still refused to quit. Rebel would prevent another stomp off the top, and allowed Hayter to set up a super Samoaon Drop. Instead, she’d be dropped with a big Crucifix Bomb and a double knee strike for the win.
Riho was as smooth as ever, while Hayter had another great showing in AEW. They beat the tar out of each other, and showed how powerful the ladies of AEW can be when a match is set up between two of the best. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
