Tonight was supposed to see the return of one of the best feuds in NJPW’s junior heavyweight tag team division. Roppongi Vice was to reunite, and take on The Young Bucks. However, as is a trend in recent times – COVID-19 had other plans. Rocky Romero is on the mend, and tonight Trent Barretta has a chance to go one on one with Nick Jackson. Nick doesn’t step into many singles matches – but when he does, it’s a match to remember.
Trent Barretta & Nick Jackson Steal The Show In First Ever Singles Meeting
These are two men who have shared the ring together 50 times – but this is their first singles meeting ever. Trent would show an early power edge, but allowed the clean break on the ropes. Nick would come back with a series of offense, but took his eyes off Trent and was punished for this with some hard knife edge chops.
Trent would hear Nick call for a Brainbuster, and tossed him into the air with a Belly to Belly Suplex. Nick went to the apron, but was brought back into the ring with a Northern Lights suplex – getting a two count. The back body drop launched Nick, before he’d use his cunning to avoid a crossbody, and Trent hit the ropes.
Following up with a neckbreaker through the ropes, Trent would be sent to the outside, and Nick followed with a big kick. Back in the ring, Nick would hit a falling double sledge off the top rope, before a hot shot over the ropes. Trent would make the comeback, only to take a superkick to the face. He’d roll outside, and Nick leapt over the top rope for a splash.
Matt Jackson wanted a cheap shot, but Orange Cassidy stopped him – and this distracted Nick. He’d be yanked onto the apron, before regaining control in the ring with a knee strike. Trent tried to fire back with a superplex, but was fought off. Nick flew with a swanton bomb, but landed on the knees of Trent instead.
Never Count Trent Barretta Out
A trade of blows saw Trent win out with a big lariat before a deadlift German Suplex. The running knee strike got Trent a two count, before he’d nail some elbow strikes to a fallen Nick on the ropes. Nick would flip to the outside to dodge Trent, before being dropped with a spear.
Back in the ring, a backdrop driver and swinging DDT got a two count. Both men would hit German Suplexes, before Nick would come from the ramp into the ring with a Canadian Destroyer for a two count. Trent & Nick would trade heavy blows once again – before a bulldog out of the corner.
Superkick would be blocked and Trent hit the Half & Half Suplex and big lariat. A quick piledriver would land, but Nick stayed in the fight. Another piledriver was attempted on the ramp, but Nick countered with a backdrop and a swanton bomb. A 450 Splash in the ring was still not enough. Trent would take a superkick, but was able to block into Strong Zero for the victory!
Serpentico Was Not Ready For HOOK
HOOK has not been figured out yet in AEW. Fuego Del Sol couldn’t use speed to beat him. Bear Bronson wasn’t able to overpower him. Aaron Solo couldn’t out wrestle him. Tonight, Serpentico steps up for a shot at HOOK, and hopes to stick and move – avoid the heavy blows, and perhaps even just survive.
As Serpentico would make his entrance, HOOK rushed him down and nailed some heavy knee strikes. A series of judo tosses would drop him down, before the Kimura would be applied. Serpentico got the bottom rope to get free, before a capture suplex. Finally, REDRUM was applied – and it was all over for Serpentico – keeping HOOK’s win streak very much alive.
After the match, QT Marshall would come out to trash talk HOOK – and got suplexed and stepped over. Who can hope to stop the path of HOOK? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
