The value of Chris Jericho in the AEW roster is something that really can’t be understated. He was the most recognizable star when they got their start in 2019, and has been able to remain one of their top names even in 2022. Being one of the most respected wrestling veterans in the ring, he’s been able to take the likes of Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia under his wing. But most importantly of all, Jericho has deep links in the professional wrestling industry – which recently allowed AEW to link up with the widow of Owen Hart, none other than Martha Hart.
Chris Jericho Gets Some Appreciation From Tony Khan
Tony Khan himself would admit this on Busted Open Radio, where he gave a lot of credit to Jericho for the creation of the Owen Hart Memorial Cup.
“I do have to give a lot of credit to Chris Jericho because it was his relationship that he had built with Martha Hart, and the respect that Chris Jericho had built with Dr. Martha Hart, that really put me in a good position to where he introduced me to her.
I spent many, many hours on Zoom with Martha. We’ve built this relationship and built trust. It’s helped us build this partnership with the Owen Hart Foundation led by Dr. Martha Hart. Now we’re having these great matches in this great tournament. It’s just so special to have Dr. Martha Hart participating in the tournament as a spectator. It’s great to have her there with her family.”
More Tournament Action To Come Over The Next Week
Over the three hours of AEW programming this past week, we saw four first round matches in both the men and women’s tournaments. Toni Storm & Ruby Soho moved forward in the women’s tournament, while Adam Cole & Jeff Hardy moved forward in the men’s tournament.
We have a few more first round matches to come, with Kyle O’Reilly vs. Rey Fenix & Kris Statlander vs. Red Velvet set up. Samoa Joe & Britt Baker also have first round matches incoming, but their opponents are unknown at this time. The finals of both tournaments are coming at Double or Nothing 2022 later this month.
What will the finals of these tournaments be? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
