Arguably the most popular character in the WWE for several years continues to live on in the hearts and minds of fans and Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend character was trending this past weekend during WrestleMania Backlash.
The best part is it was sparked by a young fan and Pat McAfee during Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey’s I Quit match.
The whole thing got rolling when what looked like a child fan dressed as the Fiend was in the front row, and Pat McAfee acknowledged the fan by asking on air if that was the Fiend.
Pat McAfee Gets the Fiend Trending After Comment at WWE WrestleMania Backlash
Silence followed until Michael Cole redirected the focus back to the match, which sounds like McAfee and Cole got an earful from Vince McMahon about not saying that or responding to McAfee’s comment.
McAfee gaffs a lot, as last month he referred to Butch as “The Rabid Wolverine”, a nod toward Chris Benoit who is on the WWE’s never mention list for his atrocities.
Plus those silences were frequent on Raw when Jerry Lawler filled in last year when no one knew how to react to a zinger. This year, the King was mellow to the point of being invisible when he filled in for Corey Graves. Lesson learned?

The Fiend lives on
While the WWE chose to ignore the mention, the fans had other ideas after hearing McAfee mention him, and the Fiend was quickly trending on Twitter.
What’s going to be interesting about this is the WWE loves to praise their social media influence, but this will probably go ignored by the WWE and Vince McMahon.
Who can blame them? It must be hard being constantly reminded how badly Vince messed up with the character with bad booking, squash matches, and ignoring the fans before releasing Wyatt.
To add insult to injury is Wyatt was released a year ago and then fans still remember him fondly and want him back.
Of course, Vince has shown an enormous ability to forgive just about anything if it can make him money, and since they are reportedly still selling Fiend merchandise bringing Wyatt back could become a plan at some point.
Meeting the price point
Since his release, Wyatt has embarked on other avenues such as taking part in making his own horror movie, but he’s reportedly said he’s open to wrestling again but his price tag is high.
He may even be more of a headache come contract time for Vince as he’ll undoubtedly want creative control. We wouldn’t blame him after how badly he was booked throughout his career.
There are other companies that would give Wyatt more freedom if he wants it, but his asking price could results in a bidding war, depending on who wants to sign him.
