Olivia Rodrigo and Lily Allen were fired up when they took the stage during England’s Glastonbury Festival. The duo performed a cover of Allen’s hit track ‘F*ck You’ and they brazenly dedicated the song to the US Supreme Court Justices who were responsible for the overturning of Roe v Wade, a decision that now makes it illegal for women to get an abortion depending on what state they live in.
Before breaking into song, Rodrigo addressed the crowd with an impassioned statement, telling them, “I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this,” referring to the Supreme Court’s 5-4 vote to limit a woman’s right to choose whether or not she wants to be pregnant.
Olivia Rodrigo and Lily Allen Sing ‘F*ck You’ And Dedicate Song To Supreme Court Justices Who ‘Don’t Give A Sh*t About Freedom’
“I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a sh*t about freedom,” she said. Rodrigo then called out the individuals who voted in favor of overturning Roe v Wade by name. “The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh,” said Rodrigo before announcing, “We hate you! We hate you!” Lily Allen put her middle finger in the air while saying, “We hate you guys!”
Lily Allen and Olivia Rodrigo then broke into song, uttering lyrics such as “Look inside, look inside your tiny mind, now look a bit harder…So sick and tired of all the hatred you harbour…so you say it’s not okay to be gay, well, I think you’re just evil, you’re just some racist who can’t tie my laces, your point of view is medieval.”
After the pair let out their frustrations on stage, Rodrigo clarified that while she’s grateful to be performing alongside one of her idols, she’s been unable to shake her downtrodden feelings about where the United States currently stands on abortion. “This is actually my first Glastonbury and I’m sharing this stage with Lily, this is the biggest dream come true ever. But I’m also equally as heartbroken about what happened in America yesterday,” she said.
Following her expletive-filled performance at Glastonbury, Olivia Rodrigo took to Instagram to share a video clip of New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand speaking against the Supreme Court’s ruling. In the clip, the Democrat senator said “I do not think that fifty percent of America should be told that they have to put their bodies at risk of life or death without their consent. I hope every human being in this country understands that when you take away a woman’s right to make decisions about her health and well-being, she is no longer a full citizen. She no longer has freedom, she no longer has bodily autonomy, she no longer has basic civil rights or civil liberties. This is a life or death moment, and we need to fight like it is.”
