A Connecticut man received more than five years for trafficking cocaine in Hartford. Rigoberto Mateo-Silva was working with his partner Shabazz Valentine in acquiring trafficking quantities of hard drugs from California.
Connecticut Man Gets Over 5 Years for Trafficking Cocaine That Was Brought in from California via FedEx
The two were instantly in authorities’ sights as they used the postal system to acquire the cocaine while sending a lot of cash out west in exchange. In late July 2020, police moved on search warrants for his residence, two stash spots, and his car.
The car had tracking receipts for the drug orders and police intercepted a FedEx delivery for California that contained $160,000 in cash. At Mateo-Silvia’s house, $700,000 in cash, guns, ammo, paraphernalia, fentanyl, coke, and heroin.
He was found at another stash spot in East Hartford where authorities seized 75 grams of coke as well as over $100,000. By early 2021, authorities had observed Mateo-Silva buying more California coke.
In June 2021, police moved in to arrest him and he eventually pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to sell 500 grams or more of cocaine in July 2022.
Mateo-Silva was sentenced to 70 months with four years of supervised release. He currently awaits sentencing for related charges and has pleaded guilty to those charges.
